like the site alot so i thought i'd bother you people with complete beginner questions,
My petccock has three positions, res, pri and fuel, i always thought there should be pri, res, and off. Can anyone tell me what position would equate to off?
Yup. On :icon_razz:
Check out the GS500 FAQ at:
http://gstwin.variders.com
But in summary:
ON: The normal position for your petcock. It acts as "On" when the bike is on, and acts as "Off" when the bike is off.
RES: This is your reserve tank; use only if you run out of fuel when in the "On" position. It is about a gallon so you could get up to 40-60 more miles, but get to the nearest gas station as soon as possible. It is not a separate tank like some people assume; it is actually just the fuel at the bottom of your tank that has it's own separate hose.
PRI: Use only if your bike will not start and you suspect fuel problems and it has been sitting for a while without and fuel flowing through it. Normally, you will not need this.
You don't get an off. If the bike's not running, the petcock is off.
Look at the petcock and you'll see two lines going to/from it...a fuel line and a vacuum line. That vac line is what opens it up.
Thanks people,
Richmore
