Title: Paint or airbrush?
Post by: Maduro Mistress on January 19, 2006, 11:57:07 AM
I'd LOVE to do something like this to my bike. My question is: is it paint or airbrush?

Could do it with an airbrush or vinyl decals.

Tough to say on the leathers.  My guess would be that the bike, since it is a race bike, is done with pre-cut vinyl stickers.  You could used an airbrush to paint that on there (airbrushes use compressed air to atomize the paint).

There are some vinyl companies that sell stuff.  You should look on  line.  I bet you could find something cool that would work with your bike.

I've looked and looked and looked. My problem is I'm somewhat of an artist and I can't help but want to paint everything! My tattoo guy is into airbrushing too, so it would be a joint venture, so to speak...

That's the way to go.  Come up with a design.  Paint your bike all one color.  Give your tatoo guy like $300 (tatoo guys will do anything for $300), and let him go to town.   Then never, ever, drop your bike again.

Or send your plastics to GStwin member named Airbrush.

I work for a sign company and we have done digital prints and applied them to vehicles.  I am sure the graphics on the bike are some sort of "wrap".

Yeah- it's a sticker

Look at the front of the bike and you can see where it ends

I'm not sure about the leathers though

Vinyl graffix. Printed on cast vinyl, laminated with a clear cast film, custom cut, then applied to the surface. nice job too  :thumb:

Personally...I prefer the airbrush over vinyl anyday...a good airbrush artist won't have a hard time with that and will find it a challenge. I'm starting to learn from my uncle who runs a custom airbrushing bike shop. He's done bikes, helmets, leathers, all kinds of things. Whatever you do, make sure you get clear over your paint or vinyl, a good clear with UV blocking agents and lots of coats, that way even if u do have a slight mishap (drop your keys on it, scuff it with your boot, etc) it can be buffed out and the sun won't eat the colors. The problem with airbrushing is that it gets expensive fast but being able to say, 'No thats all paint' was worth it to me... :dunno_white:
