Hi All
Just completed my basic riding course and picked up a 01 500E locally about 3 weeks ago. It's been sitting in the garage for about a week. After finishing my riding course last weekend I took her out for a short ride around the neighborhood, everything seems fine that day.
Then I took her out again the very next day. and the bike will shut off itself after a while with the valve turned to "on", but everything seems to be ok if i switch to "reserve". Is the fuel line clogged?
Thanks
Welcome!
You may be outta gas! And, that's why the reserve works! You still have enough gas in your reserve...and to get to a gas station.
fill er up..
^ditto.
Put more gas in her and get back to us. "On" is only the quivelant of everything above the little red "you're out of fuel" light on your car's fuel guage.
Oops, sorry, I forgot to mention that it happened when i still have 1/3 of gas in the tank.
I did fill her up last night and seems to be fine. Today it happened again, also shut off itself when I was warming up the bike.
Is the vacuum line hooked up propperly and not leaking? Where is the bike idling at? Are you aware of what maintanance has been performed in the last 12 months?
I haven't check the vaccum line, I will do some maintence on it with a friend this coming weekend. and I don't know what maintence had been done for the past 12 months, I think the seller is a forum member as well, I will try to get in contact with him soon.
I didn't pay too much attention where the bike idleing at, but I think the bike idle at 1,300rpm before I turn it off at garage today.
I was thinking fuel starvation (though I wasn't sure how fast he was going) 'til he said it stalled when he was warming the bike up.... :dunno_white:
Well, if it's stalling while warming up, you might want to play with the choke.
so after filling up did you have it on "on" or reserve? check you plugs to see if maybe they are a little futzed. that can easily cause mysterious issues.
Even with choke on, the bike still stall if the value is turned to on.
Thanks for all the suggestion, I'll change out the plugs this weekend and see how it runs.

You are into "reserve" if you look into the tank and see what looks like about a third, you need gas! Been there, done that. :icon_rolleyes: ;)

My 97 goes to reserve with about 3 gallons of the 4.5 used and the 02 goes to reserve at about 4 gal of the 5.3 used. Yours sounds about same. It does allow a long time to find a gas station. :thumb:
+1 on Pandy's fuel starvation. Pop the gas cap open and see if it helps.
+1 on put more gas in it too.

no, no, no. no fuel starvation. When the bike "runs out of gas" and you need to switch to reserve there is LOTS of fuel left in the tank. this is normal. 1/3 fuel in tank (your visual guess) sounds about right.

K....could ya' 'splain this one to me more, cuz I'm :cookoo: When my bike had fuel starvation issues, I always had plenty of gas in the tank. Heck, I always had to refill at 100 miles, or he'd act as though he was a poor starving bike-child, and he'd stall at highway speed.
Or am I putting your two statements together above when you're making two separate statements. I'm so confuzlded...
