I know I have an animated avatar, but I'm the board admin.
I have recently seen a few large +100k avarars appear and this makes the board slow to a crawl for anybost with a slow connection.
We are considering not allowing animated avatars, but for now we request that IF you must have one that it is under 50k in size. Ones over that will be removed.
Can't you hard-limit the file size and pixels from the board settings?
I don't like the huge ones either... And I'm always on broadband.
Not that I am aware of. But if you come accross an avatar that's too large just report it to me or thegoodguy or pantablo and we'll lok into it.
....how does one create an animated avatar??....
I can create animated avatars for those who request it... after I come back from San Francisco on Sunday. :icon_mrgreen:

Just an animated gif... You use a program that makes them... And you make them in that. :icon_razz:
Jasc (creators of Paint Shop Pro) makes an Animation Shop to do gifs fairly easily. I dabbled in a few when I had it on my old laptop. My favorite one was an "I (heart) eBay" icon.
My animated avatar is the best!! The bike is moving so fast, you can't see the wheels move cause of the refresh rate of your monitor. :)
That was so funny I forgot to laugh...
... I remembered!
Thankz 7 :thumb:
.
Is this all because of that little pansy Phire complaining about my "Chomper" avatar?? :icon_rolleyes:
Jeez. :cookoo:

I know you can but I couldn't tell you how.. my old board had it limited.. hmm wish I could help
it's simple to limit the demension of the image but not the file size since the avatars are not hosted on the server.

14k isn't bad -for 2 frames it could have been crunched down further but heck it's still 14k so no problem.
Many people find avatars distracting and annoying. Some I find that way, but size is an issue. I removed a 150k avatar the other day. That's just too big and slows page loads. At this moment there is no rule change except for file size. 50k will allow for about 5 to 15 frames depending on color (256/128/64/32) and compressibility. I have seen and made some nice ones at 64 colors that worked well and stayed small.
