I'm wondering if any of you folks recommendations for a certain brand of 4-wheeler? Polaris, Yamaha, Honda, Etc... I'm looking to buy one for yard work and snow removal, and of course some local exploration.... I've been eyeing up a 1986 350cc Honda Four-Trax 4x4 for $1500.00 (Canadian). It comes with a wench and plow... The seller says it's in top shape -- and it looks/sounds it... The skid plate has a few bumps in it, but nothing major and the engine looks great... but I really know nothing about them. Is that a good deal for something 20 years old?
Thanks.

I have an 03 Honda Foreman S...the 86 fourtrax was the start of these. It was top of the line 20 years ago, but personally i dont think much has really changed other that bigger, faster, electronic automatics. It depends on how the p/o treated it. Check for little things that aren't great and watch out for rust underneath.
My dad has a polaris, my bro-in-law has a yamaha, and my buddy has a Honda Rancher... I'd pick the honda hands down if I were in the market.
I had a 250cc Yamaha Beartracker (2 wheel drive). It was a 2001, and I paid $1500 for it but I got a very good deal (I just had to pay off when my friend owed on it, she couldn't take the payments anymore). Anyway, I ended up selling it for $1500 about a year later. Pretty cool huh?
Anyway, as long as it is in good shape and has a winch and a plow, I would not hesitate to buy it. A plow is generally a couple hundred bucks, as is a winch - and both are extremely helpful.
Make sure it is in good shape as you would any other car, motorcycle, etc. Check for obvious signs of abuse and what not. But for $1500 canadian, barring any major issues with it, I'd buy it :thumb:
Hey Guys,
Appreciate the input from u all. I'm going to check it out again this weekend and take it for a spin, I've found it needs a new bearing on a front wheel, but I'll probably replace both fronts if I get it.
Stephen, you're right bout the Honda's. Everyone I talk to has that as their primary recommendation and an '86 can't be too hard to work on if something breaks ... minus discontinued parts :)
Thanks again.

It comes with a wench
Sweet! that alone is worth the cash :icon_lol:
I have owned a 2000 Polaris 325 Trailboss, 2001 Kawasaki Bayou 220, and the last one was a 2004 Yamaha Blaster.
I never had any problems with any of them.
The one I mish the most and wish I had kept..... the Polaris. Great trail quad and good for light work.
