Title: For those of you with ipods.....
Post by: porsche4786 on January 28, 2006, 12:27:38 PM
What do you use with your ipod for listening to music in your car? I don't really want to have to hardwire in a plug. I was looking at the radio kind. Are some better than others?

The Griffon iTrip works fairly well, but it becomes a pain to find an completely empty station to listen to when you're in the city. The sound quality is also somewhat lacking at times. I noticed it sounded best when I was out in the middle of bum-f%$k nowhere with no radio towers to speak of. Hardwire is the bst, most reliable option. Radio units tend to all have the same problem of being cancelled out by local stations.

I'm not sure if I would use my ipod in my car that often, just because it's a pain to get it all ready and stuff (plus getting out the face for my stereo). Then I'm overwhelmed with a huge list of songs. Another reason I want the radio kind though is so I can jump in one car and move to another car and still use my ipod.

Something to consider, the iPod radio adapters that  are powered by the iPod itself have two gaping flaws that make them worthless in my eyes.  First of which is the fact that since they have no exernal power source they eat up a battery in about 2 hours (for a mini).  Second to that but along the same vein is the fact that since they have no external juice, they produce a worthless radio signal that is very weak and leads to a lot of interference.

I found a unit by Monster, the same guys as the nice cables, that plugs into your cigarette lighter and draws no power from the iPod itself.  It produces a great signal and can be set to numerous stations and is the only device I have seen yet that is worth the $.

Hope this helps!   :thumb:
