trillian, or Gaim will handle just about all formats of IM and IRC

There's a good one called MEEBO [http://www.meebo.com]. It does AIM,ICQ,MSN, YAHOO, GTALK... All inside of a browser.

For a desktop client, try Miranda-IM. It's thinner and faster than Trillian and does the whole lot. [http://www.miranda-im.org].
