Title: Along with good riding weather comes.........
Post by: bbanjo on February 02, 2006, 07:19:59 PM
Good stories.

Caveat for the PETA folks, no animal is badly hurt in this story.

So I have the day off and my main objective is to replace the starter on my VW. Beautiful, near 60 degree day in February in PA. On my second trip back from NAPA, this time with the correct starter (if you own a '97 Golf go for the '98 starter based on the pics in their DB) I am heading down a two lane at a clip (50 or so) and in the time it takes to turn my head I hear a "Yelp" look down and to the right to see a small animal shoot out from under a Chevy conversion van, hit my right foot, and bump my rear tire up enough to realize that the poor critter has taken the brunt of a 400 lb bike combined with 190 lbs (my fightin' weight for ice hocey) of my ass....

I look in my left hand Napolean and see it continue across the road to the curb and lay there.

I hit a break in the median and make a u-bie to see if the poor guy is done for so I can at least say the last rights (guilty Catholic). I pull the bike up toward it and it's just laying at the curb. It's a goofy little black and white nondescript lap dog the size of a boot. I drop the kickstand. Get off of the bike, and the dog turns it's head toward me still laying on the street. I start to walk over to it, and it jumps up and runs into the street like he thinks I'm collecting roadkill for a stew.

He cuts to the right and heads into a Bally's parking lot. I run back to my bike and start it  so I can get it up on the sidewalk (It's still in the street). I park it there and run (full gear) into the Bally's parking lot, soon realizing that I would probably scare the crap out of it by leaving my helmet on. I take that off and spend the next 10 minutes chasing this stupid little dog around the parking lot trying to see if it was OK.

A few people leaving the Bally's in their workout clothes watch me chase the dog for the last few minutes nervously (I'm Korean....J/K, I was speaking to the dog in Korean) until I give up.

I head back to the bike with my tank bag (with a $200 starter in it) on the bike (in Philly) and think about the fact that if I was in my car I wouldn't have noticed the friggin dog, and thus not had the story to tell y'all.

Good Story, Since you never caught the dog it was probably alright
