Title: motorcycle pants
Post by: JRider on February 04, 2006, 06:06:18 PM
My instructor at the BRC suggested that we buy some motorcycle pants to protect the lower body. The pants are made out of the same material as the jacket is. He said that if you fall in jeans you could scar up your legs and theres no padding for the knees. Has anyone seen some motorcycle pants for less than 200 bucks?

We have bought from them several times and they are top notch.  Check out their close-outs too.

ICON make some great looking pants with protection.  Reinforced knee areas and triple stitched at the critical seams.

Here's one product they have, only $90

WOW. $51 shipped. That is a steal. I'm looking for a pair but the are no longer around that price, at least not in my size. What do you guys think of these on ebay?

I use these, http://www.hoodjeans.co.uk/  they have a "Aramid" lining ( bit like kevlar) and look very much like ordinary jeans. You can put additional "EC" armour if you wish. The one I use is the ND4. very comfortable off and on the bike.

I have the Alpinestar mesh pants (http://www.newenough.com/alpinestars_airflo_textile_pants_page.htm) that goes over my jeans.  Very airy.  Only one complaint:  since I am slim, the waist adjustment (http://www.newenough.com/product_pictures/a/alpinestars_airflo_textile_pants/waist_adjustment.jpg) is as tight as it can get, and the hooks on the flap catches the pants beyond the loops and mars the pant fabric somewhat.  Just a little unsightly, but my top covers it most of the time so no big deal.

Bought them from newenough.com.

Cheers,
e.

I use these and they are just like a normal pair of trousers but stronger so hopefully will not rip in a fall.

I need pants too  :icon_confused:

question... when buying online, how do you make sure you get the right size for you? I'm thinking about overpants, something like this one: Joe Rocket Ballistic 5.0 (http://www.newenough.com/joe_rocket_ballistic_5point0_pants_page.htm), or this one too: Alpinestars Air-Flo Textile (http://www.newenough.com/alpinestars_airflo_textile_pants_page.htm), and I may even try to get this: Joe Rocket Alter Ego Textile (http://www.newenough.com/joe_rocket_alter_ego_pants_page.htm).

maybe I should just give up and get this: awesomeness (http://www.newenough.com/vanson_motorcycle_chaps_page.htm).  :o

How do the sizing go on those. Are they bigger than the normal size or run the same exact sizing.

First gear overpants look and feel very nice, I tried on a pair last summer. There's a removable liner and whatnot. Buy the size you usually would, they are sized to go over pants.

I just bought a pair of Draggin Jeans and they are pretty comfortable to wear all day, even off the bike.  Kevlar inside at the knees and butt, reinforced stiching all over.  No armor unfortunately.  The local shop here sells them for $110.

Will the ankles on these pants go over boots? They look like they won't.

Normally overpants have a zipped vent so they will go over boots. on the "Hood" site I posted earlier there is information about size and fit.

With a 1.5 mile commute, wouldn't it make more sense to walk? Or at least bicycle? I'm 1.0 mi from work, and I just can't justify driving my GS to work...

Don't get these!!!  They suck.  I went down in them and they were by far my weak link in gear.  I got major rash where these jeans failed.  I only wear leather now.  I have reviewed them several times and they get a big thumbs down.

I've got a pair of Draggin Jeans and the First Gear mesh overpants.  I like 'em both, haven't really tested either of them out though.  Had a low speed low side, probably 10-15 mph, in the Draggin Jeans, didn't even scuff the denim.  The First Gear pants are great, very comfortable and suitable for 3 season use with the liner.  Especially good for us tall guys, unlike the similar Joe Rocket offering they come in a "tall" size.

Yes.

The only reason I didn't go with the First Gear pants is the denier (330), but they do have armor; the Fieldsheer does not.  My next pair is going to be TourMaster's Cortech overpant ($200, 1000denier and armor (I need something water-resistant)).

Hi there,
I just bought the First Geat HT Overpants from newenough.com for $119 and they are great!
http://www.newenough.com/firstgear_ht_overpants_page.htm
http://www.newenough.com/product_pictures/f/firstgear_ht_overpants/front.jpg
Easy to put on and take off because of the full length leg zippers, even over my boots and jeans. I also bought the $19 improved knee armor and installed them into the pants with the standard foam knee armor for extra protection. The hot set-up.
They are nice pants, and the removeable liners make them great in different kinds of weather, which is perfect for riding here in PA. They're also waterproof and comfortable.
I was inspired to buy these, my first pair of motorcycle leg gear, after Pantablo's post last week about the $89 leather pants on sale from NewEnough.com. I didn't want leather for various reasons, but have long wanted better protective gear for my legs while riding my bike.
So thanks Pantablo for inspiring me to get these after 30 years of riding in jeans!
Yours,
Todd
