Title: Icon Motorcycle Gear
Post by: mike_mike on February 06, 2006, 01:53:47 PM
Is this stuff reputable motorcycle gear? Becuase as far as I can tell it just looks like its all "for show".

"Bling" Helmet... and all of their gear looks like the ultimate fashon statement.  How does this stuff compare to say Alpinestars?

Someone fill me in, becuase they have some nice gear. However, the fact that its all flashy and looks like its for showing off leads me to believe its garbage in the protection and quality department.

I don't think it's garbage exactly; the newenough.com guy had some positive things to say about their jackets.  I agree that the styling is a huge turn-off though.  Everything looks like it's aimed squarely at the squidly "Stuntaz" segment of bikers.

As far as I can tell from their site, it looks like the gear is completely intended for the sportbike stunt crowd. They even mention that they don't do racing... only street stuff.

I've been told by many dearship employees that ICON designs stuff mainly for stunters, so that's why I decided to find an ICON Mainframe Scorpion helmet.

But do you like it?

Do you stunt on your GS500?

In the recent Helmet Test done by Motorcyclist Mag., the Icon helmets posted some good numbers for protection.  I'll likely be picking up a new helmet this season and if the Icon fits well-  sold.

I defintely do not stunt on my bike.  As to fit, unfortunately, I just purchased it last Friday, so I own't have it for another week or so.

...I'm definately not getting one for a while....considering I just quit one of my two jobs today (I was a VA workstudy at ASU West)....the other one is an internship (luckily it's paid) and since it's a graduation requirement, I won't be quitting....but that's ok....cause I love my internship....

....still think that's one sweet lookin' helmet though...

I said I'm sorry Mastrind!

But seriously, I do thank you for the picture of the helmet.  I was on ICON's site, but I guess that was last years paint scheme.  I don't really like the choices this year.

:nono: always try on a helmet for at least 15 or 20 minutes before buying it

I've had my Icon Alliance for about 3 years now so it's pretty much time for me to start thinking about a new helmet.  If it says anything, I'm probably going to buy another Icon helmet.  It's been very comfortable and I love the shield system.  After about 2 years, my face shield started to unseal on the freeway if I turned around at a bad angle to check my blind spots.  Otherwise, no real complaints

icon is geared towards being casual and comfortable.  notice the $300 jackets cant zip pants to them?  the boots are comfy for all day.  the jeans are functional as well as comfortable.  stunters just started wearing the stuff cause it fits the bill more than other things...plus they started making some of the crap in rather colorful designs  :cookoo:

Iron Brand gear is usually the cheaper end of manufacturers like Joe Rocket.

Not nearly as good as Daianese, SIDI, Alpinestar or Daytona but they get the job done...Cant say ive seen any bad incidences with Icon but just seem like there pricing is a lot less than other brands

Especially helmets...compare a Shark, Shoei or Arai to an Icon...youl notice the quality right away..at least i did at the last bike show a month ago with the 06' models

I've got the alliance helmet, super duty gloves, motorhead jacket, and motorhead boots...my ol lady went nuts and got me all the gear except for the helmet...jacket for my birthday, gloves and boots for christmas...
All the gear is badass...especially the jacket. :thumb: and the boots :thumb:

I also have the Motorhead boots.   I really like them, comfortable and seem to be good quality.
