Title: Bike won't start...
Post by: melloGS on February 10, 2006, 02:41:21 PM
Brand new 2005 gs500f...4200 miles...
I push the start button, it barely cranks, then the starter i'm guessing clicks, and then i release the start button...I tried it a couple more times and sometimes only the clicking.
Never had a problem with the bike and have done all the maintinance according to the book...last thing done was oil change and all that jazz was done at 4000...The last time i rode the bike was about two weeks ago...before that no problems...The only thing i can think of is that maybe the battery is weak or somthing and can't power the starter enough to crank hard enough...the reason i think that is because while the bike is on and not running, i pull the front brake, the headlight dims... :dunno_white: :dunno_white:

Freshen up the charge on that battery.  Then try it again.

also, you  can jump it with a car - the fastest way to revive a dead battery. or you can try to push start it if you have a firend to help push your bike (while you're yelling at him to push faster )

is with a long freeway ride.

Or, just put the battery on a charger (of less than 1amp) for however long it takes to charge.  Check to make sure the battery fluid (distilled water) is at the full marks on the battery.

If you DO jump the bike with a car, make SURE that the car is NOT running...

Thanks for the replies...i'm prolly just gonna get a battery tender to charge it up. I have a car battery charger but i'm not too sure if i should use it on the bike...
would a battery tender jr. be sufficient enough? and how many volts is the battery?

the battery tender jr. will be fine.  Wal-Mart also carries two (at least in my local store) different chargers/maintainers.  One is made by Black & Decker and the other by Schumacher.  I have the latter, and it works fine.  Both are $18.

The battery is 12v.

I have tried to push start my bike without a battery, but got nothing.  I think you have to have SOME juice in the battery in order for this to work.  Won't work off a completely dead batt.
