Title: '04f seat
Post by: annguyen1981 on February 14, 2006, 08:27:53 AM
Has anyone re-upholstered their seat?  Mine has a small cut near the grab bars, which isn't noticable, but I know it's there.

I've looked underneath and it doesn't seem too complicated.  I just needs ideas as to what to re-upholster with.  Leather?

I re-upholstered my 2004 GS with a skin from a place online, and I really like the way it turned out.  The procedure was fairly simple, but I found it to be infinitely easier with two people holding the material.  The skin contains three colors; I think it is made out of  vinyl.  I have a blue '04 so I chose the skin blue/black/white as the color scheme.  I think that it really ties in the colors of the bike instead of just a black seat.  I have my pictures on my computer back at home, and I won't be there for two more weeks (currently I am at school), but could try to get you a picture asap.

The skin I purchased was from second-look.com, I believe.  However, I just tried getting to their website and it looks like they are currently down.  I haven't been there for awhile so they may have moved or something.  However, if the website does come back up, they have pictures of what the seat skin looks like on a GS.  Also, they initially sent me the wrong color pattern and then sent me another skin with the correct pattern, so I have the first one they sent me but no seat to put it on, if you would be interested.  This skin is still blue/black/white but the sections are switched from what I had told them I wanted (they were wiilling to customize it to whatever colors you wanted).

What about getting a 2nd hand one from a breaker and having a go at covering it instead of the original one. If you make a b**** of it you still have a good looking seat.

Well, he is an engineer.   He must be on to something there.  :flipoff:

JKFOR3 - can you send a pic of both the extra and your actual seat when possible?  Also, how much do you want for the extra?

I will definitely send a picture as soon as I can.  I may end up getting to go home this weekend, so if that is the case, I will get it to you then.   Also, I'll look at how much it cost, but I will definitely give it up really reasonably.

Hey annguyen1981,

I ended up going home this weekend so I grabbed some pictures of my seat skin on my bike.  Here are some of those pictures:

I still need to take some pictures of the other skin that I would be able to sell to you.  I will try to get those taken later tonight and posted.  However, it is identical to the one on my bike except the colors are switched.  The white is the same on both of them.  However, the blue and black are switched.  So on the extra one, where you sit, it is blue and where your legs are it is black.  Once again, it is from the same company (Second-Look) as what I have on, but since they customize the color choice, they switched the black and blue initially.  Hopefully, these links work, but you can always copy and paste to see the pictures.  It's my first time trying.  Hopefully this helps you out and I will get those other pics put up later.

As you can see, it turned out really well.  I was very impressed with the ease of putting it on there.  However, it did take another person to help hold the material so it didn't bunch up.  Oh, and that tank pad is also from Second-Look.

Here are the pictures of the extra seat skin:

http://www.geocities.com/soulfly_productionz/Blemish.JPG

The first picture is a full snapshot of the entire skin.  The second picture is it flipped inside-out (the part that rests on the actual seat).  The last picture is one of a blemish.  I forgot about this blemish, but it was there when they sent it to me.  I think that it is on part of the excess that will be tucked underneath, that you won't be able to see.  That is the only one that I found on there and as you can gather from the pictures it would be on the back left side of the seat.

I forgot to grab the receipt when I went home, but if I remember correctly the seat skin was $90 and the tank protector was $100.  I was wondering if $50 sounds reasonable?

I am sorry, I just realized that my bandwidth on that site has been maxed.  I uploaded them to my school account, so try these links if you would:

The other links will work in a bit, but these should always work.  Sorry about that.

That looks sweet!

$50 huh?  I'm gonna pass on that cause I'm a bit too busy to take the time and put it on my seat.  Chances are I won't put it on until the summer or maybe even the fall season.  $50 is a bit to just let sit around the house.  Thankz anyway! :thumb:

Maybe another member does have the $$$ and time to purchase this for themselves.
