At work we have a lot of wild cats...and they breed. I'm always catching an odd kitten or two wandering around our shop or something. I usually just pet the little ones a bit if I can catch them an let them run back off. Every now and then, though, I come across a specials one.
Last night I saw one sprint across our shop floor and I took after him. I was just going to hustle him outside but he climbed up into the engine bay of my truck. When I popped the hood and he jumped i noticed he limped a bit...so I went to hunting him down. Took me 5 hours to get him out of my truck and caught.
Turned out his left front foot was crushed. since he climbed up in my engine bay I just assume he did it before and got hit by the fan or caught in a belt. All he's got left is the big pad and one of his smaller pads. He had a toe/claw still hanging on but only by a tendon. The toe was dead and rotting, the tendon wasn't doing any good by it...he didn't even feel it when i cut it off.
After cleaning his foot up really well it doesn't look as bad as I had thought it would be. he's apparently been dealing with it for some time because he's done a lot fo healing. The pads are pink, nothing's inflamed and the only open spot is where I cut his dangling toe off.
he sits in my lap now and purrs away...if I'm standing he doesn't seem to like me but if he's in my lap and I stop petting he lets me know...kinda funny from a wild kitten. not sure how old he is...he weights 1lb 13oz, has most of his teeth, purrs and shivers and eats hard kibble.
I'm going to hang on to him for a few days to make sure his foot doesn't get infected or anything then I'll be putting him back out.
I'll try ot get a pic of him...he's cute.
How sweet of you!
hey I'm %100 cool guy...and a straight up sucker for pitiful baby quadrapeds.

Evil? If you consider single-handedly using my mind to will away the forum's most respected members "evil", then yea...
wow nice.
theres a wild cat in the apartment complex where I'm staying at, and she appear to have become part of the (2) family now... waking me up at 3am to let her out and coming back at 5 to sleep all day until 6pm...

Actually, I was just referring to the fact that you have 3 rat bikes, and haven't offered to give one to the forum's best resident nood...
so where's the pic? ;)
You'll have a very dedicated friend now. The cat knows you helped him out, and he'll return it. :thumb:
I probably would have a vet administer to the paw though. Rural vets aren't very expensive.
Awwww...mail the lil darlin' to me! :icon_mrgreen:
(Just don't tell my bf...)
Mak
Good for you! Wifey and I have saved and adopted 6 stray, orphaned and homeless felines over the years. As they have gotten older, they have all mellowed and returned the devotion that we have given them, enriching each others lives. Three years ago, I had some serious surgery, and Palmer the cat I had "saved" back in '89, stayed by my side almost constantly while I recovered. When he died in 2004, it was truly a sad event.
i rescued a half-pint size maine-coon when I was in college, 7 years later he's 20 lbs and rules my house... He is definately living the good life
awwww...any picture of the cutie?
I have a maine coon too...I found her in a mud puddle she looked like a wet rag took me a minute to realize it was a kitten. Her eyes were barely open and she fit in the palm of my hand...after several weeks of not sleeping and never being away from her, constant bottle feedings, and imitation baths, she finally turned into a crazy little kitten...she's huge now and very fluffy and has a crazy personality.

My camera is AWOL. I've been trying to find someone to loan me theirs but haven't been lucky.

I absolutely adore Maine Coons. My beloved darling was closer to between 25 and 30 lbs, but he looked about 50 lbs with all the fluff. I miss him soooo much.
so... when gf says 'let's get a pet.... pleeeease!' does that mean she's telling me to make a baby with her? :icon_confused:

:o
I'd rather have puppies and kittens!
Subc, if you go with the pet versus the child, just imagine how much more money you can throw into motorcycling. Cats don't need to go to college, Dogs don't break the neighbors windows when playing baseball. Stick with the pets and treat yourself to a Ducati or something, the world is overpopulated to being with. :icon_lol:
here's my "little" guy, Max Power...

yeah, did the same, rescued acouple of furballs with atitude from my workplace, held them for 3 days and wife and son threatend to do horrible things to me in my sleep should i turn them into the shelter, i tried to explain that they are kittens and freshly weened and will get a home no problem. 5 year old son says "but daddy this is thier home, they will be sad if you take them"
yup, Blueknyt = Sucker
