Today's subject: throttle control. Doc went over the topic in detail and simplified it for each of us as needed. No other control can get us into so much trouble. He covers the same subject as it is in Keith Code's Twist of the Wrist series of books.
We had a marginal turnout of seven other riders (9 total, Doc lead, I swept). Two EX500's, an R6, three Concours, a 650 Vstrom and two SV's (an SV and EX joined us later (the crazy russian! He's a really great rider (and he's not crazy))).
It had snowed upon the Santa Cruz mountains the day before (see Piper's thread: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=24220.msg248529#msg248529), but the weather turned out great for this ride! We did see some snow on the sides of the road.
And, finally, I've been doing these rides for two years now ('bout 17 rides) and I'm really beginning to feel more confident!
I'm looking forward to my next Doc Wong ride... I want to go on the "Cornering Confidence" ride!
I have to hand it to you for going out when there's still ice and snow on the road. I'm not quite there yet. We went for our own two-person group ride, but we stuck to dry roads. :icon_mrgreen:
P.S. Ceek just commented that on our little ride today, we weren't (I wasn't? :icon_lol:) showing much throttle control....and he says I was grinning a lot.
hail your moderateness

I've got the "ness" part down pretty well, but I'm working on the "moderation in all things" part still... :icon_rolleyes: :icon_mrgreen:

Yes, I'm including you, too! :flipoff:
What is a Doc Wong ride?
What hints can you give us about throttle control?
I need the basics.
Jake D
Roll off the throttle before entering a turn. Gently, slowly, almost impercevably, roll on the throttle through the turn.
Here's what a Doc Wong ride looks like: http://www.southbayriders.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17296&highlight=Wong+ride
And, here's some of the other things he does: http://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=131ffb333ae12d06ef7a9e3df1cd3e7b&forumid=53
Looks like a blast!
I believe that Greg Williams is trying to start something similar in the Kansas City area (without all the great twisties). He is the owner of Cafe Racer downtown and was one of my Rider Coaches. He occasionally posts on KCSB, so maybe he will offer it again. :thumb:
Yeah, I've seen Greg post on KCSB. I'll keep my eyes peeled.
Thanks Destro!
