Title: So some bastard pushed my bike over
Post by: Egaeus on February 20, 2006, 09:46:14 PM
So my neighbor knocked on my door about an hour and a half ago and told me that my bike was laying down on the pavement.  I went out and sure enough, it was lying on its left side.  Broke my brand new clutch lever and the front turn signal and dinged up my brand new meter bracket ($75!) and headlight ring.  So there goes $40 + shipping.  I had the frame covers off, and I still have my new tank sitting in my living room, or it would have been a lot worse....

It was on the centerstand because I was installing new horns.  They had to push pretty hard to get it over.  I guess I am going to have to start chaining it to a pole....

That really sucks.  I'm gonna put an explosive device in my bike with a mercury switch, so when it's tipped over (accident or intentionally), KABOOM!

I didn't think about that...  OK...

Revised:  Wire the damn addition so that it only activates when the bike is off.

Don't drop your bike when you're pushing it around. And hope that it doesn't slip as you're parking. And hope that your kickstand doesn't accidentally give out.

I had that happen. It was on the centerstand, and had accidentally clicked into first gear. When I gassed it the wheel spun and got it off balance. Ker-plunk, right in front of two cute girls. *sigh* oh well.

That's kinda how i dropped my bike.  I was riding down the road and nowbody mentioned they put in a dead end.  So there i am, turning around in a gravel dead end, with a team of landscapers putting away their gear lik 20 feet away.  Let out the clutch a bit too much, back end kicks out on me, and i'm pinned under the bike.  Ended up having to ride home like 10 miles with a severely sprainded ankle.  Had to lift my whole leg to shift, I laughed my ass off the entire way, I'm such a shaZam!!!! O0

I was thinking I might design a tip-over alarm.  I do have two shiny new 132 dB horns.  I need to find a mercury switch though.  Preferably one without any actual mercury in it....

Why don't you park it closer to your house / apartment and run a electrical current to your bike.  . . .if anyone tries to touch it they get shocked  :o.  Not sure if there are any legal ramifications.

The seat belt mechanism in any car has a mercury switch in it.  Just go to the junk yard and get one.  Probably fit it into your pocket and skip paying all together.  Just mumble something as you walk out like, "Just one freakin' '57 Chevy, please?"  Then blow air through your teeth.

I've had bikes come off the center stand.  How do you know someone pushed it over?

I used to have this recurring nightmare (true story) that a pack of rose art markers fell behind the couch and sprouted arms and legs.  They would chase me around the house untill I woke up in a cold sweat! :cookoo:

That's bad news, some sh**bag pushed both my bikes over last summer, the Suzuki onto its right side and the Yamaha onto its left. Damage wise I got lucky, minor cosmetic thanks to the crash bars on the Suzuki and the tank-like nature of the old Yammy but nonetheless it is still bloody annoying.

Apart from sitting there with a shotgun all night what do you do? I have a small cctv camera that I will get around to installing sometime.

Alarm that pages you when someone gets anywhere NEAR your bike!  Both my BF and I have the Scorpio SRi-500 on our bikes. The commuter GS has an Internatrix alarm on him.  :thumb:

P.S. And keeping the shotgun handy in case the alarm goes off?  :icon_twisted:

I've been thinking about alarms quite abit l8ly. I was looking at this one
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4596584126&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT

what do you think? good? bad? I need one thats got the two way pageing and its alot cheaper than some of the others I've seen, but also more expensive than the really cheap ones.
