I own a black '05 f in Dubbo. This morning i went for a ride with a mate who owns the same except in blue. I also know of 4 others in town. Another blue '05 f owned by my sister's ex bf. A black/silver '06 f model owned by a guy i was friends with in school. There is another black '05 f floating around somewhere, ridden by a young woman i believe. And there is also a purple '92 model.

DID SOMEONE FART?
Or did the cyclones blow all the gs500,s off the bloody map?
HELLO......lo....lo...lo...hears echo.
DING
Yeah I've been thinking the same, that it's been bloody quiet in here. Maybe when they packed their bikes away for winter they also packed their computers away too.
So is anyone going to riding through winter?
I was just going to leave the bike for weekend rides & drive the car to work, but have been riding the bike the last few weeks. Temperatures have been around 0 most mornings so I've had the thermals on, but it's not as bad as I thought it would be. :thumb:
No plans to pack the bike away here. Had a good ride on Monday with my mate Tim who owns the blue 05f. We went from here through Yeoval on our way to Wellington (before heading into Wellington we turned off to ride through mt Arthur, 6.7kms of twisty stuff x both ways) then from Wello out to Burrandong dam across the dam wall and through some of the twisty stuff there. Then back to Wello and onto Guerie via Mt Arthur then back to good ol' Dubbo. There was a bit of fog around at 8am when we left but that lifted after about 1/2 an hr. It was a bit chilly but i think putting the liner back in my jacket will fix that, Gloves did a top job. And i can't wait till my pants finally arrive, hopefully by next monday when we plan our next run.
Good to see you blokes are still alive!
No plans to stow the bike for winter, but down here you have to pick your days.
looking good this morning! think i better check the mountain when the jew dries.
ps. seen any new gs.riders around?
DING.
I saw another blue 05f in a BP about a month ago when i was fuelling up, i had a quick chat to the bloke riding it, i haven't seen him around since. And my girlfriend saw another Black 05f on tuesday, she thought it was me and waved until she noticed the rider had a different helmet and jacket.
I don't know where they all come from or where they go but they are bloody everywhere here.
I've seen a blue F model around town, just haven't had a chance to catch up with the rider.
At my P's test in Campbelltown there was a girl with a yellow 2004 GS500f.
I have been slack in visiting lately and riding, had the flu and tyres are worn out its been cold, god I must be getting old but hopefully Ill be out in another week or two with any luck. :thumb:
Most of my riding lately has been to/from TAFE, rest of the week I'm a lazy sod so not much riding.
Went for a ride the other day up the coast , around 200km round trip spotted a blue F
going pretty quick [female i think?] Had a look at the 06 HYOSUNG 650 GTR silver; it looks
shithot! very comfy to sit on but no demo. at 9k$ it seems like a good thing ! Id like to see
how reliable they are i rekon id buy one
DINGO,
what day did you come up , & was it by the coast?
all the best matt:) your friend

It was one day last week ,went up the coast road to Bermigui & out to the h/way
didnt go your way , or were you at Tathra some time? havnt ridden since to wet &cold.

I've been leaving the bike at home & driving to work lately. Maybe I'm getting soft but riding -4 temps just don't appeal to me. I will be going for a ride Saturday and hopefully cover around 500k's.
I had a look through the Motor Racing Museum on the weekend & it's pretty good. They still have the Hansford display there, theres 5 bikes that he's ridden, plus a lot of info about him. They have a few bikes there now, along with a fair bit of bike memorabillia. So if you guys get a chance, go & have a look :thumb: :thumb:

One black standard 90GS500E in melbourne, love it, used to ride a gsx250, 320 kays to a tank, more than enough go when you weigh 55 kgs!
Had a fuel blockage recently, fitted a ryco car fuel fiter in line after cleaning.
Hopefully good flow no blockages...
Drove a car to work in Melbourne whilst fixing. Hopeless, an additional 30 mins travel time one way.
Will be getting gsx250 back on road as backup only. Has anyone heard about club/classic rego plates being issued for bikes for 90 days use with a log book of ride times. Is supposed to be under consideration, fee would be approx $120 a year?
l
p.s would support aus register :thumb:

Hi all the new riders I've been a bit slack on checking the threads and my network wont allow the respond messages so I've been missing the updates but by the looks of things another OZGS ride could be in the makings although some of us will probably meet up at thredbo for the snowy ride.

hey guys, d00r here over Parra way. had my black '06 naked gettin' on about 5-6 months now, and lovin' it. had to upgrade after I killed my GN - she just couldn't take it anymore!!! she'll be outta the garage one of these days once I work out where the grindy noise is coming from when I rev it  little trooper - she'll pull through.
haven't got any GS bling to offer just yet, but have grand plans (waiting for warranty to expire!!!). been lurking around the place picking up ideas and gathering prices - there's plenty of inspiration round this place. been a wealth of info already, especially when Action put my fuel lines on back-to-front at first service! could've stabbed the mechanic after running dry at the bottom of a hill ... twice! bastard.
anyway, great to see an Aussie community growing - thanks for the pm matt86to. noticed something about the group the other night but got lost in other links trying to find it...
bd.
anytime mate :) I wasn't %100 if you knew about your little area Welcome :)
all the best matt:) your friend
Welcome backd00r, in parramatta you say I'm in Bankstown so not to far away and yes I wouldn't trust Action Parramatta's mechanics as far as I could throw them I have never heard a good word about them thankfully I haven't had any work done by them I'm to scared to even if they are closer to home then were I go but now the bike is out of warranty I just do most of the work myself anyway.
I can recommend Sydney city as they seem good and you can watch them work from there waiting room.
We will all have to get together for a ride sometime although I can imagine like me with the run up to Xmas is pretty full :thumb:
a ride sounds good to me mate. let me know when you're freed up and we'll go for a scoot. trying to go on leave on the 15th so I'm flat out atm ... perhaps I should have accepted fewer christmas party invites ...
just got the GS back from her 6K service last week. got in the ear of Action's head mechanic this time. I'm also good friends with one of the sales staff, so bandied his name around some and repeatedly expressed my displeasure over the last service, and I'm pleased to say she came back running sweet, with all tubes and wires connected correctly.
they still didn't bother to fix my loose tail light (can't figure what that form is for that asks you list problems with the bike ... but you win some, you loose some. I think that might be my last visit, warranty or not. I'll definitely check out Sydney City next time - they've always had a pretty good rep. did you get your dyno-tune done there too Lukewarm? (I'm sure I remember reading that somewhere ...) hoping to order a can and pipe in the new year and would like to do it properly.
bd.
Hi guys,
I'm new to the board on to riding (this year!).
Thought I'd say 'gday'....I'm in Cherrybrook, Pennant Hills, NSW
Here's my pride and joy
(http://members.optusnet.com.au/richard_salmon/images/Suzi.jpg)
Nice and shiney (keep it that way!)
That said..... Anyone know of any pro-taper or renthal bars that are like the stock bend but won't act like spaghetti in a fall, maybe a little higher (me being taller than your average bear). An airborne adventure on Wednesday night means I need some new 'bars :cookoo: I'm currently getting around with some pro-taper bars off a yamaha mini bike, but they're too far forward, and not enough sweep on the 'bars so they're uncomfortable, not too mention a little skinny so the grips are hanging off the ends
get some nice apehangers Brembo ... a Comanchero rode past me this morning on his poofy Harley, and he looked so comfortable, kicking back on his motorised sofa ... :D
Welcome... FISH..trout?...flathead?... :dunno_white:
What's happening ? No shiny new [or used ] gs500's for chrissy? No new members ?
Anyway Im still here, Went for a run up the mountain yesterday :icon_twisted: I'll never get
sick of that run , took a couple of pic's [30kph sweeper] but Im having trouble uploading

Greetings all! I'm Don from Toowoomba in QLD. Have today sold my old ZRX1200R Kwacka (too expensive to run / maintain) and am am about to purchase a new GS500 and have ordered a Magnum system to go with it. Glad to have found this forum. Will have a search later for jetting etc to sort the exhaust system. This is my first GS500 and can't wait to pick her up.
Welcome Don.
Congrats on the new bike! What made you pick the GS500, [btw. we need pic's]
Sunny Qld. Any good roads up there?... Mmm I feel an adventure coming on
Hope you stick around ,there is some good shaZam! on this sight ...and a little :bs:

Another new member:
I got meself a brand spankin' new black GS500F last month. It's just done its 1000km service -- cost $320 -- believe it or not! :dunno_white: Peter Stevens in Dandenong reckons it needs the valves checked at every service -- WhaThF...? That's :bs:
Anyway, the GS is my fourth bike and replaces an XJ600S 'Seca' which would have been 11 years in January but it got written-off by a car. My fault entirely, I'm afraid. :icon_rolleyes:
congrats Falala good choice
Your service cost was about right but tell him he can shove the valve check, every service my ass thats just a blatent money grab, be sure you really want to deal with them. Ask him to go out on to the street pull over as many GS as he can and ask how many have had the valves checked at each service he will be lucky to find if half are even regulaly serviced but they all still run and still go. Its an air cooled twin not a balls out sports bike the guy is a fool. ( Anyway enough bike dealer bashing )
Just a quick question I know its still a little early to tell (or not) how did your Seca compare with the GS I was looking for one a while ago before I got the GS but never found one to ride how does it stack up? :thumb:
Don't thunder storms shaZam! ya! bloody beutiful all frigging day at work' AH nearly time to ride home

Anyway howcome so quiet in here? somebody must have done [bought sold rooted] something.
Im redoing the forks today the oil mustv gone off, the front end feels like a pramfrom vinny's
Anyone go to the island?..........................er guess we won't know till mondy[dickhead]

We've had the same problem here with storms, even though the rains good.
The storms I can put up with, it's the bloody hail that comes with them that I hate.

Old man,
Thats a pretty sweet looking bike O0
Another one here :) Black '05 GS500F, done about 17,000km on it since i got it new about 18 months ago (and 50m sliding down Old Southern Road in the southern highlands... which also meant i was off the road for 5 months, not because of me, i only coped a grazed knee, but because Suzuki took their sweet time getting the right parts to the repairer.)
atm i'm riding about 200km a day to and from uni, so quickly racking up even more k's
Big HI to all new members :thumb:
Had a count thats 22 confirmed with about 11 floating around, pretty poor! a whole web site dedicated to the humble GS and only 22 owners
Old man :thumb:
g'day folks
add me to that list... well soon :thumb: picking up my new GS500F either late friday or sat morn :)
cheers!
In Adelaide btw
Welcome & congrats on the new bike.
Where you picking it up from, Kessners or PeterStevens?
g'day mate
kessners, went and seen them yesterday for a price etc.... ringing back tomorrow to confirm
got a price from both, pretty much the same.. kessners have them in stock the others (forget the name now but on franklin st) have the naked bikes only with a 7-10day wait for an F...
can't wait :icon_mrgreen: :thumb:
Welcome to the group zephler :)

safe riding
cheers Matt :)
been browsing this site for a few weeks, great info :thumb:
Got mine from Kessners also.
You should have got the naked. There the best IMO. :)
yeah I don't mind the nekid ones, but I'll be doin' quite a bit of highway work (Adelaide - Riverland about 225km each way) so thought :dunno_white: the faring would cut the wind factor down a bit :icon_razz:
Hi there,
04 gs500f, Had my babe since september last year, At the moment I'm looking to to some mods to it, eg handlebars, exhaust. Eastern Creek, Sydney. Hope to meet some more Sydney riders, And there seems to be more lady riders out there everyday.
Hey Lou, I'm passing through that way every other week visiting friends - I'm over Parra way myself. Hope to see you around!
Can't believe I missed this thread.
+1 91 GS500E, fuel injected turbo streetfighter.
Located in Benalla, North East Victoria.
How's your beast going icebaby ?
In bits again. Had to make a new manifold to lift the turbo higher to try'n prevent it from over oiling. I'm also making a new exhaust. Just replaced the MX bars I had on with a set of flat drag bars.
Don't forget to post pics here :thumb:
Spose I should get my finger out & sign up at the ASF forums.
I'm gunna try and get the exhaust finished this weekend. I'll get some pics up then. O0
Do you have the standard exhaust gaskets left Ice? I CBF'd talking to the local dealer because they are shaZam! so I am going to get some from overseas. Will probably work out cheaper given the strong aussie dollar.
My bike is together and running. New carb diaphragms made all the difference. Went for a bit of a blat on sunday but it was all unfamiliar roads so took it easy. Looking for people locally to ride with to get lines down and experience up. A friend of mine has organised an AFR to commemorate his sons death from cancer so I will be doing that and we will be going on a cruise down to a braking and cornering course or a superbike school or similar at some stage too!
Feels so good to be riding again!
James
James, I have the cut the standard exhaust in two. I've still got both parts. Front half ends after the two into one join.
G,day blokes
How ya goin ,i notice not many new GS riders around here lately [male or good in leather]
The red one has been shed bound for to long ,due to bat flattery ,no rego, cold,& lazy
But that's about to change. Ehaust comming off today rusty from riding to work in rain
mayby operate on the can while it's off. Also looking into putting a widey on the back
but finding the right wheel is not easy. The whole bike needs a bath, covered in truck shaZam!
and chain fat not to mention blood &guts from marsupial pedestrians that did'nt make it!
behave yourselves!
 DING
Yeah it's been quiet in here of late, there's two GS riders on the Twowheels forum that are locals, plus I did see a L plater on a blue & white F model the other day.
Ithink you'll find that the katana wheels that a few people put on their GS's are the GSXF 600/750 that we got out here, sothat might be a start for you. Hopefully you'll get your bike back on the road soon. :thumb:
I'm off to Orange today to watch my young fella play footy, then meet up with a couple of other blokes for a ride to Wyangla dam and back. :thumb:

I was up your way last weekend, at Casino. There's some nice country up there.
Have you ever done the Casino to Tenterfield trip, that looks like a fun road for bikes. :icon_mrgreen:
Yeah its beutiful up here. I've driven Casino and Tenterfild for work a few times but have not yet had the chance to ride it. I agree its a great road for bikes but there's heaps of great roads around here. Heard of the Lions Road. It straddles the border from north of Kyogle past the railway's "Border loop'. It is the only road I know of that is maintianed by anyone other than the RTA- The Lion's club looks after it, great ride.
Cheers :thumb:
Well that make 26 listed, 11 unconfirmed, surely there are more than that? :dunno_white: Met a 91 model rider in the Vid shop a couple of weeks ago, told him about the site but havnt seen any new posts, I've seen a number of 500's parked and in shopping car parks but no riders, I've thought about sticking the web address on the bikes does anyone else do this??
Old Man
Make that 27, How you going Searbret!

Hey Dingo, I'm still riding mine, only to and from work at the moment, I need some time to go for a decent ride. If you're heading up this way let us know and we can meet up, will you be riding?
I'll be stuck with my bike for a while yet cause we just had to buy a people mover to fit all the kids into.
I stacked it back in november 06 and fractured vertebrae. I am fixed and I have the following on the bike:
Twin headlights
New handlebars
LED Blinkers (have another set FS if anyone wants them)
LED tail light with R1 lens
respray
Currently riding once a fortnight or so. It takes me longer to get geared up and wait for the bike to warm up than it does to go to work. If I work a half day I take the long way home though...

Hi All, this is John .... have being riding for over a year (Posti Bike - Honda CT110). This was my introduction to motorcycle riding. Having said this, I upgraded to a K4 GS500F in mid February this year with 18,399km at an exceptionally good price.
Needless to say, all the reviews I have read to date on this bike is 'spot on' .... It is comfortable, easy to master and very forgiving.
I am looking forward to meeting up with any fellow OZ-riders living in the lower North Shore (Sydney)
Cheers,
John O0 - email: johnm@allsporttours.com
G'day all,
Picked up my brand new 08 GS500 last Thursday and love it. Been riding now for 18 years and am at home on 2 wheels. Never got my car licence till I was 21 and that's only because myself and the wife wanted to have kids.....
I travel 66km a day to and from work on the bike in all weather and love to get out and ride with others on weekend when I am not busy.
Anyway nice to meet you all, once my first service is done how many of you Perth boys are up for a ride?
Cheers and Beers
Steve
PS
Erm is there a thread on any Perth Rides? Can't find one
Your the first westerner here so welcome.
Another Aussie GS Rider Here. Byron Bay Area.
Meet n greet in person (Sydney)
Hi all you Sydney lurkers - we're trying to get a meet ride going north of Sydney; half a day; in the next few weeks. If you would like to come along, reply to the "Sydney ride..." post in this forum.
hey everyone
Bought a 2004 blue/white gs500f about a month ago. Its been a great first bike (got my L's the same day i picked up my bike). Ride just about whenever i can find an excuse to do so. Between work, uni and going out, finding time for the longer rides is pretty tough. Looking to get a few decent trips in though leading up to the summer as im hoping to travel from Sydney to cairns this Christmas holidays. Seen quite a few gs500f's in the last week or so around sydney. Although they tend to lane split passed me before i can say hi :D..thats wat u get for living in the city i guess.
If anyone in the sydney area wants to go for a ride just pm me. Been going down to royal national park a fair bit recently.
-Roshan
Hi,
I bought my black naked GS500 in April this year after a brief period on a CB250.
I ride every day to work on it and tend to go out on weekends down the Old Pacific Highway to Road Warriors or up to Kulnura or Wollombi.
Anyway, if anyone fancies meeting up for a quick weekend blast let me know
Cheers, Dave
P.S. I Live on the Central Coast near Terrigal/Avoca
G'day All,
I'm a newbie with a new Blue and White GS500F. I used to ride a bike illegally about 25 years ago when I was young and stupid. Now that I'm old and stupid, I decided it was about time to fully accept my mid life crisis. :)
Nice to meet you all.
Chris
Hi all,
You can add a Midnight Blue 94 GS500E plus 2 riders (my wife and I share the bike) in Albion Park, NSW
Cheers,
Shane

Whittlesea , Melbourne , Vic
Welcome folks, good to see a few more GS's on the road. :thumb:
Hey Guys n Gals,
Add another GS500F to the roads of Melbourne :) Purchased brand new from Peter Stevens in Ringwood. Great assistance and support ! Very professional service from all staff, and store is very well stocked with anything you would ever need.
Delivered to my door on 1st Oct, ridden for the first time on 3rd (Melb weather.. gotta love it !).. in just over 1 week, lots of riding around metropolitan Melbourne, with 460km ticking over on a blank odometer !
Go GS500F ! Absolutely LOVE riding this bike (yep, my first, though have ridden 750cc cruisers and smaller capacity bikes previously)...the GS500F is beautiful around turns, nippy enough around Melbourne streets and looks impressive also (I got the Black/Silver 2008 model).
Anyone who goes riding regularly around Melbourne, please let me know and we can try to set up a ride sometime.
Happy, safe riding to all.
Nickers777
Bang one more on the list :)
Black/Silver naked '08. Picked her up about a fortnight ago and just ticked over 600kms whilst out your way this morning Madbones!
I was seven years off a bike, and have only had 250's in the past. The plan is to use the GS as a stepping stone to a bigger touring bike, but so far having a ball with it.
Nickers when I'm free on the weekends I'm up for rides, let me know if you plan anything.
Cheers,
Mark
Hi all
I got my 05 gs500f in 10/08 with 3500kms. I just got my L's. 7000kms later I have my P's. This site helped me decide on this bike after my original choice was too small (Suzuki across).
I think this is a great site and love reading all the posts.
Hi all
Name is Krissi, Northern Beaches area, doing my pre-L's Monday & Tuesday next week - extra motivation to pass? - Silver F 2007 with 3400 odd K's on it purchased 20/01/09 sitting outside my bedroom window all covered up.
Marc, SA.
2008 GS500F - brand honking new. Of course, after the fact I realised that I could have had an earlier model for significantly cheaper, but thems the breaks. Fantastic first bike, definitely going to keep it - even if I get a newer bike. =D
Already done just over 4000k's over the course of the last 3 months. Now I just need to get R-date and all will be well =)
Welcome all.
Krissi
How did you do? You passed?
s4gs - got too sick to keep going half way through day 2 so they let me go home and slotted me into next available day 2 slot which is this Friday morning. Will be doing some "carpark catchup" with Dad tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday because he wants to make sure I am up to scratch and pass. Probably because he is sick of me whinging like a girl I haven't got my Ls yet
Totally stoked because I passed! Finished the course, headed on down to the RTA and took the test on the spot :woohoo:
First thing Dad said after congratulations was "Now don't go off when I'm not there and think you can ride your one out on the road on your own yet it's much more powerful than the 250s at the course so we start off somewhere quiet so you get to know your bike properly and safely." Actually hadn't thought much past passing my L's and I know Dad is part machine-part human so I know he is right and looking out for me so now just have to find a good day to go out for my first official ride with him :icon_mrgreen:
Hey guys,
this is Paul from Sydney Parramatta, just got a brand new 2008 GS500F :)
Cheers and ride safe
I'm in Canberra. I have an Oct 2008 black/silver GS500F. Great bike for a learner - now on my P's. I've got a full exhaust, twin K&N's, rejetted, mirror extenders and Zero Gravity touring screen. Ride 52km every day as my commute, just racked up 6500 kms now.
I'm in Camden NSW, 05 F, new paint job ride back roads for good fun and try to stay out of heavy traffic
Gday you lot!

+1 in Melbourne.
Although I've been riding sporadically for a few years now, I only recently bought a GS500 and started to ride regularly so I'm definitely a beginner. If there are other folks in Melbourne I'd love to go for a ride/have a drink and leech off your expertise ;)

It's good to see a bike getting ridden. :thumb:
I'm at 20,500-ish in less than a year. That'll be over 21,000km by the end of the week. So you could say I ride a Lot.
It amazes me to see bikes for sale that are a few years old with only 5,000kms on them. No matter the brand.
Michael
I love riding the GS was hard to get me off it for a while.. i put about 25,000 on it over the first 18 months.. haven't ridden much since i moved down here and my son was born, but that's a good excuse..
Will have to give it a wash and start riding again soon..
Another new member from currently living in Western Sydney. Riding an 07 GS500F which now has 32000 on the clock, bought it at 8000 around 18 months ago. Ride everyday, and love every minute of it (even if most of the time it is just up and down the M4 in peak hour haha).
I dropped the bike in gravel in the Snowy Mts a couple of months after buying it  but it just gave me the excuse to paint the bike all black and I have since added a custom sticker set. O0
Only other mods to speak of have been swapping to Dunlop Arrowmax tyres front and rear and adding iridium plugs. With time and money willing the list will increase :thumb:
one here in vic :thumb:
Welcome to the group Guys 8)
Another newbie here from Sydney. Wish I'd started riding 15 years ago, but better late than never. Recently bought an '05 GS500 with ~25,000k's. My first bike & loving it. The bike is booked in for a major service shortly. Can't wait to get off my L's; hoping to do my P's test within the next month.
G day Mate & Welcome to the Forum :)
Hi guys,
I'm new to here. I'm from Melbourne S.E Suburbs. And ride the GS500 daily to work in the CBD on the Monash.
Started on an old 90 Kawasaki zx250r and changed to a 2008 GS500F(very positive change:), loving the GS500F. So much more comfy yet still sporty)
So far been reading up heaps on the bike and have added the following mods:
- Carbon Megacycle Exhaust
- K&N Lunch Box
- Rejet to 20/62.5.142.5
- ebay foot pegs
- waiting on some ebay hids to come in
Quick question for you guys, my bike is a 2008 GS500F and it was purchased in early 2009 February.
For insurance they need to know the model, would it be a K8 or K9?
I can't find anything that signifies this on the engine compliance plate.
Should organise a Suzuki GS Cruise some day. See a fair few of them in the city and around the place.
Cheers,
Lawrence

Sorry for the delay in responding. I did not realise that anyone had tried to contact me. I am very new to forums and I do not know how to be automatically notified of a reply. How do I do it? The only two pics I have of the bike were taken just after I picked it up on Feb the 2nd. They include my ugly mug and were taken to email to my brother-in-law. I hope that this is not bad form as I have seen that forum pics do not usually include faces. Since these were taken I have fitted a large GIVI topbox for touring and an alarm/immobiliser. I have only had time for 2 "real" rides and it has just 527km on the odo. Time is tight at the moment but I hope to do some riding soon.

I don't think I've replied to this thread before, I'm a bluey green (or is it greeny blue) 95 GS00E in Sydney. I'm trying to get on some more organised rides through netrider if any of you guys are on there.
To "Uninhibited", thanks for the tip on the Auto Reply question. I managed to go for a short pre-dawn ride this morning over the West Gate bridge and back. The sun was rising just as I was crossing the bridge. It was a pretty cool view. Does anyone else like early morning rides? It was only 70ks but the conditions were great except for the diesel fumes in the tunnels and the incessant roadworks on City Link. I'm impressed with the fuel economy of the bike so far! Obviously I have not revved it over 6k yet as it now has only 603km on it but there is still plenty of fuel in the tank after 361km. It is still sloshing around and I don't think that I am near hitting reserve for a while yet. I don't know if it is my imagination or not but I think the engine is starting to feel a little stronger and smoother already. The more I ride this bike the more I like it! :thumb:
Prmas,
Do NOT be fooled by how much fuel Looks to be in the tank. It is quite deceptive. You should be hitting reserve any time now - you are riding around with the petcock in the On position I hope.
If I ride sedately I hit reserve somewhere between 330 and 360km. If I ride harder - stay in a lower gear so I am revving higher for the same speed, quicker accelerating, higher top speed, etc. - I'll hit reserve between 300 and 330. But what I do is, when I get near 300 I start looking for a servo.
Any time is good time for riding. Earlier mornings on a weekend when there is little to no traffic is nice. Specially out of the city and on the more rural roads. :thumb:

I believe the 95 blue is called Ocean Blue.
Besides netrider, if you just want to ride, check out http://www.ulyssesclub.org/ and click the Branches link, then your state link and find a few branches closer to you. Then check out their ride calendars and just Turn Up on one of their rides - anyone of any age can go on their rides, not just members. Find the ride leader, introduce yourself as coming and tag along near the rear (not tail cause there will be a designated rider for that) cause you don't know how They ride as a group so observing from the rear is a good way to learn group riding. Their rides are Slower (which means speed limit) and more easy going and they are friendly with plenty of good old Aussie banter. Plus, you'll find some of them are new to riding as well - they just started older.
Michael
To mister: I shall let you know how I go with the fuel. I am really taking a liking to these pre-dawn starts especially on a Sunday as it is so quiet. On one of my rides I covered 70k before I saw a car. Although I stay at the speed limit it is nice to look ahead and find an empty road as far as you can see.
By the way, my name is Paul. :thumb:
Michael (mister),
I have a little more info on the fuel consumption for you. This morning I went for a short ride before dawn again and I was thinking about your comment re the amount of fuel in the tank. I had planned to go for a longer ride up in the "hills" on the twisty stuff but as I was nearing the start of the great winding road with the hairpin turns the weather started to turn nasty. I didn't want to tackle that road in the wet as I would just have to crawl along and it would be no fun so I returned home. When I returned I decided to check the amount of fuel in the tank just in case the fuel lines were reversed on the tap. Perhaps I was running on reserve despite the tap being "on". With the bike on the centre stand I disconnected the main tank hose and let the fuel run into a clean container until it stopped. To my surprise out came 1.4L. I checked inside the tank and there was still 50mm depth of fuel. With a torch I could see that the fuel level was still up to the third ridge on the fuel strainer. This is apparently the reserve fuel level (4.3L according to the book). So I have now covered 404 km with still 1.4L remaining in the main tank. I have not refilled the tank so I can't say exactly how many litres I have used but "by the book" it should be about 14.3L. This works out to 28+km/L or 3.5L/100km. I think this is excellent for a new engine with a 50/50 mix of suburban/freeway+twisty mountain roads. I am very happy with these figures. :)
Sorry to break the chat, but any GS'ers in Hobart. Just moved down and looking to ride.

On the drive down from Brisbane to Hobart, I drove the putty road for the first time. Damn I wish I had a bike then. That road would be awesome (only if I could die). Wicked turns and drop outs, awesome hair pins. I was having fun in the family car driving. :nono:
Phil,
If it's not too intrusive, might I ask how you just up and went down to Hobart?
Was it a job transfer? Retirement? Did you do a recce trip to find a place to live before the move? Spill the beans man.
As for the cold... when I was down there in April a few years ago I noticed: I was rugged up but the locals where wearing normal cloths. And coming from Birsvegas it'll make it worse for you guys - for the first year. Hope your place has a Heat Pump.
Michael
I'd be saying Phil is a service member of some sort, what with the comment of Dawn Service and going from Brissy to Hobart.
Yeah guys, ex service member now. I had to pull the pin on it due to family suffering too much. Spending too much time away from home wasn't my style anymore.
I'm normally a shorts person, but the first thing I did was buy five pairs of jeans. And some shoes. The pluggers will stay in the shoe rack for quite some time i think.
I'm working for Cummins Australia now as a field tech. Job good too. Just had enough of being treated like a child at 30 in the ADF. Time for a new job. Done O/Seas service so I'm happy.
Grew up in Hobart so it seemed good idea to go back and raise the family there. I get my bike back tomorrow from the transport company, so let the good times roll :)

And their response to damaging your bike was...?
Let me guess "All care but no responsibility taken"
Did you use a Know Motorcycle Transporter or a Removalist. How did the bars get bent (tie down straps, fall, else?)?
Michael
Tie down straps on the tow truck or on the Spirit Of Tasmania

I would be worried about your forks too then in that case if you are using enough pressure to bend the bars. What was it pretty rough weather crossing Bass Strait and they didn't want to lose their cargo?
The whole bike has a once over, by the local bike shop. Forks came up within newer end of the limits.
I'll post a quick warning to all. If you ever travell this way on the Spirit Of Tas, I'd watch them tie your bike down so you can see what their doing. God help them If I ever go back that way.

Welcome to the forum mate & it's Good to someone else from the Shoalhaven on here too.
Yo. In the middle of sydney with a increasingly mean looking 03 naked gs.
Anyone know any good wreckers around town for our bikes? After a frustrating drop today I might need a new front master cylinder.
Any pre drop photo's A.Milos?
(http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/3387/20110517151134.jpg) (http://img19.imageshack.us/i/20110517151134.jpg/)
Pre-drop, but a near stationary drop is next to harmless with these things anyway, looks the same right now. In the very near future I'll have my rejet and V&H SS system, black rear plastics, got all of them waiting in my garage already!
Don't mind those bars and mirrors.
Are they Suburban Machinery bars?
Nah, they're laverda 'jota' bars and MCS mirrors.
Hello People,
New to the site. I am in Perth with a K9 GS. Purchased new still stock. Thinking of changing to an aftermarket pipe soon and a re-jet. If there are any other GS riders in Perth I am always keen for a ride.
Cheers
Leigh
Heya Leigh!
Welcome.
Care to share a pic of your ride?
BTW, my GS is also a K9 from new and is almost at 43,000km now without a hiccup, so you can look forward to Lots of happy riding.
Michael
On my last night shift. I will pop a photo on when I get back home and I am awake in the daylight hours. I have done about 18K on mine with no issues. Its out of warranty in Nov. Not worrried. By all reports the GS is bullet proof anyway.
Cheers

Hi missk8t.
Welcome.
In case you are really totally new to riding, might I suggest getting a copy of...
Twist of the Wrist II - DVD and Book
Ride Like a Pro V - DVD
And have a watch of these Free govt-made videos introduced by Wayne Gardiner http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/safety/publications/2005/ride_on_video.aspx
Michael
Thanks Michael, I have a feeling I've seen those Ride On movies before. Nevertheless, they're still great info for a learner.
I've been riding trail bikes for years but never done any road stuff. So head checks, blinkers and buffer spaces are all new to me and I feel like a green rider all over again. :icon_eek:

Hi all,
+ 1 here in Geelong, Victoria. (although I bought my bike 2nd hand so I suppose that equals itself out :D) Getting back into bikes after not having one (or a licence) for several years. 08 naked, stock standard for now. Looking forward to when the nice weather (finally!) comes along so I can get out and about a bit more.
See ya around!
Andy.
Good weather in Victoria? Their is nothing like the sound of optimism.
Have fun on your GS. I have had mine only 8 months and am in a similar position to you. I am in the SE suburbs of Melbourne but regularly ride down to the Bellarine as I used to do when I was MUCH younger. I spent lots of time around Barwon Heads/Ocean Grove/ GOR etc and will be getting down there again in the near future. Perhaps we can meet somewhere for a run around the beaches. :thumb:
Paul
Thanks Paul,
Have done a couple of runs down to Lorne so far, here's hoping that we start seeing some of those nice clear spring days.....and yes uninhibited, we do get them, just not as many (I should know, after moving down here from Qld 4 yrs ago ;))Yeah, for sure Paul, if you are coming down (especially on a Sunday) give me a yell.
:thumb:
Andy.
Andy, thanks for the reply. I am heading OS in a couple of weeks for 3 weeks or so to do some more riding abroad. I do this every year or two. I will let you know here when I get back (last week of November). I usually work on a Sunday but if the weather is looking good I can often give myself the day off. I can sometimes ride mid week as I work for myself. I know another GS500 rider not far from here too. He is on "L" plates and he might join me on a run down to meet you. I have to leave soon for my bike club meeting tonight in Ferntree Gully. We have a couple of issues to discuss. Let me know if you plan to come up my way anytime as we have some great riding here on the Eastside. In the near future (on my return) I plan to do a run down to my old stamping grounds of Barwon Heads and 13th beach. We will also do a Club Ride to Hepburn Springs soon. Perhaps you can meet us in Werribee on the way through! Many of our members have Suzukis. I will keep in touch.
Paul
Hi Guys,

The frame is now in paint and after extensive repairs the fuel tank had it first colour coat today. Iam living in Langwarrin near Frankston Vic am 54 years old and just got my learners permit ... and sold my racing lawnmower to buy it and all the paint and parts... I am hoping to have it roadworthy and registered in the next 4 weeks Wife thinks i'm nuts

Welcome to the habit that is the GS500 and welcome to out little section of the insane asylum. If you are looking for some people to ride with, check out some of the local Ulysses branches around your area. This might be right near you http://morningtonwanderers.org otherwise you might find something else here http://www.ulyssesclub.org/tabid/80/Default.aspx?st=VIC
They generally ride slower and most have cruisers - that the GS500 is better than - but they will be quite welcoming.
Also do yourself a favor and get a hold of Twist of The Wrist II and if you haven't already seen them, what the videos here http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/safety/publications/2005/ride_on_video.aspx
Michael
:D Thank's Michael i'll take your advice and get the dvd and check out Mornington wanderers...

andymal13,
since I returned from OS I have been so busy that I haven't had much time to get on the bike. I had a great time rining around Norther Japan on a rented Ducati Multistrada 1200. However, I am thinking of doing a run down your way on Monday as the weather looks good. If you are free and interested perhaps we could meet at the Xpresso cafe in Lara around 9.30-9.45 for a run around the beaches. I used to do that at this time of year when I was young as we camped at Barwon Heads every Christmas for over 20 years. Initially I had a Honda CB250 and then a Suzuki T500 Titan. Let me know tomorrow (Christmas Day) if you are interested.

Hey Paul, it's Xmas day - down here :icon_mrgreen: - I'd go with ya if we were closer. Seem Brisbanites like to spend Boxing day recovering from all the grog they druk on Xmas Day. I don't drink so don't have that problem - plus - I have found if you avoid the shopping districts then Boxing Day is Very quiet on the roads.
Michael
Hey Michael, pity you are so far away. Hope that you had a nice Day today. We had a very pleasant Christmas Day with the family except for my daughter who is now OS. The weather turned bad late afternoon with heavy rain and large hailstones in Melbourne's Eastern suburbs. Some suburbs have had floods. As is soooooo common with our weather forecast it looks as if it may be wrong again. Yesterday it said that the rain would stop tonight and be fine tomorrow but just now it says rain all day tomorrow so I will not be going for a ride. As you say, usually the roads are quiet away from the shopping areas on the 26th. Pity!! It should be sunny from Tuesday (my Birthday). I have a 30 minute job Tuesday morning and I have to start work again fully from Wednesday. Perhaps I can get out for a shorter "Birthday" ride Tuesday afternoon. :icon_question:
Hey Paul,
Sorry I missed you post mate, I thought I had notifications set up to my mobile, but did not recieve anything. Just happened to be in here looking for something else and stumbled across your post. Wasn't being rude!
Not that it mattered, as I was over in Mallacoota at the outlaws place for xmas and didn't get back until just before new years. I did do the run you are talking about one day after new years, plenty of tourists around down that way, so it was nice and slow and steady.
Glad you had a good trip OS, cant imagine what it would be like riding around in Japan.....
Keep in touch, I'll see if I can work out how to get notifications working. I do try to get out most Sundays for a ride, either down the pennisular, or the GOR. (That is if I am not too hung over, as I am one of the (former) Bisbanites that Michael mentioned below) ;) The weather is starting to improve, so hoping to get out and about a bit more.
Andymal13,
thanks for getting back to me. I hope the outlaws made you welcome. As it turned out, on New Year's Eve I did the Bellarine run that I talked about. Home - Lara - Geelong foreshore - 13th beach - Barwon Heads - Ocean Grove. Next was to be Queenscliff but the Geelong-Queenscliff road was packed and I was behind schedule so I did a U turn and gave Q a miss. Stopped in Geelong for lunch and the thermometer on the bike was showing 52 degrees. The GPS went on a "go-slow" due to the heat. The bike never missed a beat although I did find some oil mist in the air box and on the fairing below the outlet tube yesterday when I did the 6000km service (I am a qualified mechanic). From Geelong I just took the freeway home (which I would not normally do) as it was too hot and I wanted to get home. When moving it was still showing 43-46 degrees in the sun. BH and OG were packed as I expected. Just like I remembered it from 35 years ago. It is just that some, only some, of the shops are newer and the camping ground is now full of flashier tents, caravans and cars than it used to be. The main street in BH was stopped with cars but of course I was able to weave my way through with one or two other bikes. I have not had time to ride since then or even clean the bike. I hope to be down that way again soon, on a cooler day. I shall keep you posted. If you are interested I can give you the link to my Photobucket album of the pics I took in Japan. :thumb:

This is a minor thread jack but as I am here:
I am going for a ride to Mount Macedon tomorrow to let Suzi stretch the legs. She has been resting patiently under her covers for 4 weeks now as I have been using the bigger bike to go to a couple of rallies. It will be hot and humid tomorrow so the crutch will be sweaty. :embarrassed:

Speaking of other GS500s, there are 3 in my building - my naked yellow 2005, a naked yellow 1994 which hasn't moved in months and a faired white 2009 which while it moves from carpark to carpark, has had 153kms on the odo for the last 6 months - I go and check it occasionally to see if it's being ridden, but sadly not.
Hit them up for a ride. :thumb:

Actually I was thinking about leaving notes offering them nominal amounts for the bikes they don't use - maybe I could get a couple of bargains. Though not sure what I would do with 3 GS500s, at least I would have spare parts haha.
.... And so it begins ... An Aussie Addy!! ;)
I can't believe I haven't posted here yet.
Well, I'm an Aussie, living in Lithgow, and can be most often found screaming between Lithgow and Dubbo either via Orange or via Mudgee if I'm feeling REALLY adventurous.
Yeah!! Mudgee way!! ... My Mum in law has a property there... Driven the road in car or truck many times.... But always thought it'd be slick on bike!! ... Leave Wollongong , boring bits to Richmond ... Then Bells Line of Road... Hartley Hill ... Then out past the prison and onto mudgee turn ... :woohoo:
Bells Line is a different beast to anything I've ridden before. And the Castlereagh Highway itself is not too bad a stretch of road either.

GS500 owner in Mackay, QLD.
Just bought a 2004 GS500F in yellow.
Haven't ridden it around yet cause i was sorting out Rego and RWC.
Still haven't got any riding gear yet, any tips on brands or fit for helmets? I've been trying some on in the shops but will probably order online since its heaps cheaper like that.

Welcome mate, make sure you try the helmets on first! I find AGV fits my head shape well, but Shoei and Arai just feel weird... it's very different between brands.

I can't believe I haven't posted here yet.
Well, I'm an Aussie, living in Lithgow, and can be most often found screaming between Lithgow and Dubbo either via Orange or via Mudgee if I'm feeling REALLY adventurous.
Well, scratch that. I'm now back in Dubbo. :P Lost my job, and now living in a shack behind my brothers place until I get on my feet. Spewey is still living in luxury in Lithgow until this Saturday when I get a truck to pick up all my shaZam!, toss him and his parts in the back and get to work getting him sorted, fixed and registered again.

:D Howdy fellow aussie zook owners... well I live in Perth, and hopefully by the end of the week I will be the owner of a GS500 black 1990. I currently own a XJ600 and we may be doing a swap if all things work well. I need a LAMS bike and he needs a big boys bike so things look exciting ahead. Love the forum and look forward to learning about the GS's. For some reason I want to convert the naked to a faired version that the later years have.... wonder if it is all possible and worth the investment... :cookoo: I love my XJ, but to ride legally a deal must be get brokered with the GS owner this week and the good part is we both like the looks of each others bike, so woot!!! can't wait.
Take care and talk more soon enough, fingers crossed!
Golly, stick with naked mate. I'm telling you, there ain't nothing like riding naked twins :icon_mrgreen: :thumb:
