Title: Front engine mount
Post by: Jez on February 22, 2006, 01:56:24 PM
The engine mounting bolt holes at the front of the crankcase have broken off .

Has anyone ever done a repair??

Holy Cow! How'd that happen?

We are talking about where the bolt passes through the engine case and not the frame tabs?

Yep.

I think corrosion between the bolt and crankcase cracked the alloy and the force needed to remove the bolt finished the job.

That seems to be a common problem over on the UK board. If you have all the pieces you may be able to have it welded.

Geeez thats bad, I guess it can only be due to corrosion of the alloy due to shi*e being flung onto the casing from the front wheel. If you find a good welder who will take the job on, drain the engine oil first.......you dont need it combusting from the applied heat, and be aware that the heat may burn out the sealing compound from the crankcase halves resulting in an oil leak.
