Title: Moving Truck
Post by: 97gs500e on February 27, 2006, 01:18:49 AM
I'll be moving from Kansas to Idaho in two weeks.  I'm putting a reservation on a uhaul truck tomorrow.

What is the best way to mount my GS in the truck?

Just make sure it's strapped down good and tight. Maybe put some boxes around it just to keep it packed in tightly.

You can never have too many straps holding it down.

Does your bike know you're going from flat land to a state with spectacular riding?

If you have trouble actually getting your bike ONTO the truck, here's a good HOW-TO clip...

You will need 4 ratchet straps to hold it securely.  Hook up the front straps first going from the handlebars to secure mounting points inside the truck.  Tighten the straps until the front forks are ~ halfway compressed.  Hook up the other two straps to the rear of the frame (near the passenger pegs worked well for me) and tighten them securely too.  You should be good to go clear across the country now.  Might want to check the straps when you stop for bathroom breaks and make sure nothing has shifted around.

Stick the front wheel in the corner and strap it down.

we had a prety big uHaul. i just put it in first, strapped it down, put a blanket over it and then put a couch behind it, it made it pretty well.

Just drive the bike over there so that way both you and the bike can enjoy the scenery. How would you like being staped into a U-Haul?? :2guns:

take some string and tie your boxspring to the side of the truck, put the bike in next up tight to it (take the mirrors off) on the centerstand. with the front wheel all the way forward. and then ratchet the mattress to the other side. making a gs sandwhich. and none of yout other stuff will dammage yoru bike.

Make sure you get a truck with D-rings.  Those are great for strapping down motorcycles.

Ditto the D-rings.  Get one with them and just strap the bike down on the centerstand.

If I were you I'd take the tank and tail plastics off and store them seperate.  You'll have almost nothing to damage that way.
