I have an 05 F that just rolled over 1,000 miles. Since mile 1, it has a distinct knock in the fork when it hits a sharp bump.
It is not a bottoming issue and everything on the front end is tight.
I'm coming from a DRZ400S. It may have wallowed around with 12 inches of travel, but it was supple and quiet.
Is this knock an unusual item for me or is this common to the machine?
I've read the drill on springs and emulators, but while it is under warranty I want to let the Suz pay for it.
For what it is worth, for those that don't have a way to check, my speedometer error reads 110% of actual. Checked by GPS, numbers consistent.

The bump could be from the springs bending to one side and contacting the inside of the fork tube; this happened when I put in my Progressives. I suspect that maybe the washer is askew, or at an angle, causing the spring to bend in that direction. Yep, have the boys at Suzuki have a lookie. It is not common, and not desireable.
The speedometer error is normal; we all have it.
hmm, i think i would also have them check on the steeting stem bearing Nut, front fendermounts, caliper mount. look for loose bolts and screws, fairing mounts ect
^ditto Blue. The steering stem nut is the culprit 90% of the time.
Try this:
Go out into the street and push the bike at walking pace and pull the front brake real sharp. With no weight on the bike and an immeasurable speed, the only noises will be from something loose on the outside. If no noise, try walking it backward and do the same thing. Do it both ways a couple times just to make sure.
If you hear nothing abnormal, then take her to a shop and have a mech. give her a go-over.

My forks do the same thing. I used to race mountian bikes and the forks on my mountain bike did it too. I think it is caused by this:
When the forks are compressed, they return to full ride height quickly. The sound is the the forks returning to full stop at fully extension. That's what I think it is anyway. But I'm guessing and I've never been concerned about this sounds. If I should be, let me know.

It is not topping on rebound. I still need to check the stem nut. Listening closer on the rolling stop, it sounds like there may be a little groan when it taps. Sounding a lot like the spring bowing and hitting on the sides. With my dealer experiences, even under warranty, I may just break down and do a fork upgrade on my own.

After installing a SS brake line and testing it out, I was reminded of this problem... It was pretty obnoxious on the hard stops.
I tightened the steering head bearing nut and now it is all fixed... no more noises. O0 Should have fixed this a long time ago, but in my defense at the time of this thread my bike was hundreds of miles away. I hope no permanent damage was done to the bearings...

It's part 10. Loosen the bolt(15), then tighten the nut. I gently tapped on the nut with a screwdriver to tighten it. Finally retorque the bolt. Full instructions in the Clymer manual
