Title: i think i highsided ...
Post by: facio57 on March 08, 2006, 06:55:19 PM
unfortunate to see people falling off their bikes, but its happens ... last week i ws riding on campus and came into a turn pretty fast.  i have taken that turn hundreds of times but i was going about 40 mph and was leaned waay over.  there is a 2 inch strip of road that is different from the rest and slightly less slick.  i still can't quite figure out exactly what happened, but i think i rolled on some throttle after i completed the turn basically and had just touched my rear wheel to that slickk spot.  i lost traction just for a second, and then kaboom! the bike bucked so hard and i am litterally flying through the air  :o i dont remember it all happening of course, but this is what bystanders told me.  i figure i highsided since i was making a right hand turn and my bike ended up on its left side, facing the opposite direction.  surprisingly, minimal damage to the bike, just some more scuffing to add to my last accident in november and a broken clutch lever.  i haven't tried to start her yet since the clutch is gone, so we'll see ... as for me, i got off pretty damn lucky! my head hurt a moderate amount and all the paint from the back of my helmet is gone, indicating where my head hit the pavement.  got some road rash on my right leg, but again, my joe rocket jacket has barely a scratch on it, that thing is indestructible!  so the lesson learned here is to not get complacent on frequented roads, don't test the limits of your bike when u don't need to, especially when coming around corners, and always wear your gear!

Glad you came through without too much damage....you're getting a new helmet now, aren't you? It sounds as though your head hit pretty hard?  :o

well i replaced the clutch lever on my bike, and of course, she started like a charm.  she looked good mechanically, but after riding i immediately noticed that the steering (forks?) are a bit bent.  that is, i have to turn the handlebars a bit to the left to go straight.  any ideas on how to fix this?  :dunno_white:

bucked off = highside.  Lowside = you go down with the bike and slide.

Glad you're okay!

I remember my first highside...an event I hold in som high regard...it was on a Ninja 250 and I did more damage to my body than I have on any other ride.

there is a big nut @ the top of your handlebars, sometimes if its been jerked pretty bad, you just need to loosen that nut straighten things up and tighten it back down. might work, or your bars could be bent or like you said your forks. I'd guess bars 1st tho.

Broken clutch lever replaced you said.
Probably bent the handlebars on that side too, like ashman said.

Which JR coat do you wear?  I was very suprised at how well my Phoneix held up when I decided to play superman on the asphault.  Still had a bit of rash from the coat rubbing my arm, but my skin never touched pavement.

thanks for the advice ash, i will try that.  belome, i have a jacket that is not made anymore, but if you can get your hands on one, i highly recommend it! it is all leather, i think 1.5mm and its called V-strom? or V-storm, something like that.  i got mine for about 140.00 from ebay i think, brand new!
