Title: Temporary fix?
Post by: neilson on March 10, 2006, 10:48:26 AM
The front end is so soft on these bikes.  I'm planning on getting the progressive springs when money and time permit but is there a cheap fix to make it a little better for the time being? thanks for your help

Thank you, does anyone know offhand what size PVC will fit in there?

Schedule 40.  Did I already suggest this: www.peterverdonedesigns.com/introduction.htm ?

Also, to make it easy on you, you may just want to get the schedule 40 endcaps as they are already .75inch in length.  Maybe get some washers if you want less, or more with the caps.

Scratch... would it help to put a heavier weight oil in the forks.  I know lots of people that do that on other bikes.

Make that Schedule 40, 1/2" diameter...  :)

EDIT: I originally posted the WRONG size for the fork tube spacer ; it should be a HALF-INCH in diameter, NOT the size I originally posted. See this thread for more details:

Sorry if this caused any confusion; I was typing in a rush, and didn't double-check the size before I posted...

Sure!  It slows down the action of the forks; both compression and rebound.  Compression dampening is what you're looking for, so yes!

Thank you so much for the help.  I'll be stopping to pick up the parts tonight.

FORK TUBE SPACER DIAMETER:

Make that Schedule 40, 1/2" diameter... See this thread for more details:

I posted the wrong size previously, and I want to make sure everyone concerned sees the change to the proper size, which is 1/2" in diameter...

I think in the link above, Pantablo explains the you can use schedule 80 pipe instead of something schedule 40 that is solid.  I'm guessing that a scedule 40 endcap is smaller than scedule 80 pipe.  Er, I mean, same size.
