I take it from all the replys that know one has a suzukigs500e, or u guys just can't be bothered to help out a fellow suzuki owner     thought this was the suzuki gs posting page where all the suzuki owners hang out, maybe i'm wrong!!!!!
Hello Dave. I imagine with the weather getting better in many places, GStwinners are running their bikes around rather than spending time on the computer. :)
Now as to this "clonking" sound...my first impression is chain.
Chain things to check:
-> lubrication - dry/sticky chains can make noise
-> tension - look in the FAQ for tips
-> alignment - a major problem if not correct. Your rear wheel should be parallel with the plane of the sprocket. Adjust it at the swing arm.
There are several items moving in the transmission when the rear wheel is moved, even though it is in neutral. Some gear noise is normal at this point.
Make sure your oil level is correct. The engine oil is also used to lubricate the transmission gears. The clutch is a wet clutch also.
Perhaps others will chime in, but it is difficult to troubleshoot without more information.
Let us know. :)
