Title: Newb!!!
Post by: st8racin on March 12, 2006, 09:52:32 PM
I'm a newb so I figured I'd introduce myself to ya'll. My name is Sarah and I'm in Michigan. I got my GS about a month ago and just finally got a chance to ride it around a little this weekend. I have a 2000 GS 500E. No mods planed as of yet since it's my starter bike but we'll see how long that lasts. Once I figure out how to post a pic I'll have to do that.

Hello fellow newb, have you taken a motorcycle training class? I would recommend taking one if you have not, they teach you some good things  :thumb:

Hello and welcome, I have a 2000 model too

The easiest way to do pictures is to setup an account at www.photobucket.com .  You can upload your images there and hotlink them from the forum here.  The little icon above that looks like this (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/Themes/BlackTechSMF1/images/bbc/img.gif) will insert the proper formatting code so you just copy/paste the photobucket URL between the "[img]" tags

Photobucket also has a text box with the [img] tags already there, which makes it easy too! Just copy and paste it into here!

Glad you found us; you're going to love your GS... it is a motorcycle that can grow with you, and teach you a lot without overwhelming you. You've taken the most important first steps, by signing up for the MSF BRC, and introducing yourself here... what part of Michigan are you located in? Will you be doing a lot of city riding? Commuting to work or school? Weekend fun rides? I know we have other members from Michigan, so hopefully, they'll see this and make themselves known; maybe some of you can get together for a ride fairly soon.

Hi Sarah and welcome,
:)
We are generally a fun group here, though there are a few pains and a curmudgeon or two. Don't let them bother you. :) They seem relatively harmless.
You picked a great motorcycle.
I've been riding for 30 years and have owned my 1991 GS500E since I bought it used in April 1993 with only 136 miles on it. It is plenty of fun, easy to work on, doesn't require much in the way of repairs, is cheap to insure, fun to ride, goes anywhere (I live in PA and rode it back to Wisconsin -- 2000 miles round trip --- where I went to college, just to viist friends a couple summers ago. It's great on the road!), and did I mention it's fun to ride? :)
I've owned bigger and faster motorcycles and am glad I still have this one.
Have fun, be careful and PLEASE take the MSF course ASAP and learn all that you can.
Talk to you soon, and we look forward to getting to know you here.
Best wishes,
Todd

Greetings Sarah!

The GSTwin Message Forum is many things to many people. I hope you will enjoy much and make it enjoyable for others.

I am in South Carolina and am restoring a 90, bought non-runing off ebay. Much help has been received and given over this project, my first bike also.

I took the MSF course in 2004 (yikes! that looong ago?), so am a (middle aged) newb rider myself. None of us were born with the knowledge of riding. It is a learned and practiced skill. Just like cooking, woodworking, music, sewing, dancing, etc.

The ones that make riding look easy will tell you they couldn't count the hours they spent practicing. Enjoy the warmer weather and welcome again!

Boy I hope that pic works. Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm in Lansing MI. I came across the map thingy that shows where members are located, saw a couple around metro Detroit. I'll have to get myself marked on there if I can remember where I found that. I am definitely excited to be finally be able to ride. I've wanted a bike for several years now but spent too much money modding my car to ever afford it. I finally ended the car stuff so I could get a bike and I'm very happy I got the one I did. A friend of mine that has been helping me with everythig loves the bike too, says it's a great bike to start on. So far he's riden it more than I have lol. Thanks again for the welcome, I look forward to hanging out and learning a lot here.

Hey, a fellow Michigander (or Michiganian if you perfer)!  Welcome and congrats on the bike, it looks great.  I'm from the Jackson area, so just south of you.  Check out this link in the Meet and Greet forum (http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=23792.0) for other Michigan members and a ride we are planning in the Pickney area in a couple of months.
