Title: Done everything... still have high rev's??? HELP PLEASE!!!
Post by: KYGS500E on March 13, 2006, 10:29:48 AM
Ok... so I have done everything I know to do.

I have a K&N pod, a V&H slip on, and 127.5 jets with 40 pilots.  I have replaced my carb boots, all the o-rings in the carbs and I'm out of ideas.

I can get my bike to idle evenly but as soon as I touch the throttle it takes off... I have left plenty of play room on the throttle cable...

I have no idea why my rev's still take off like they do.  Any ideas... I'm pissed off ... please help!

Check for leaks around the intake boots that connect the carbs to the engine.  When you had the carbs off did you examine the diaphragm for pinholes or tears?  Did you remember to replace the little o-ring under the top cap of the carbs?

Yeah I had the carb boot on one cylinder almost completely torn off.  But that was not high revs, that was one cylinder firing only.  :icon_lol:

O-rings are still there... I replaced them.  The Intake boots are good.  I made sure it was a good connection with no tears or splits....  THe diafragms are fine too... grrrrrr  also...

Does black plugs mean the bike is running rich or lean?  My left cylinder plug turns black and fowls after a few minutes of riding.!!!!

Black and fouling is rich. Have you checked float height?

Did you adjust your air/fuel mixture screw?  :dunno_white:

I thought the black plugs = rich javascript:void(0);

I'll check the idle screw and float height.  That's not too big of a deal though... if anyone could help with the rev's I would really appreciate it though!

You have a '92, the left carb is rich.  Is the choke plunger sticking?  Is the vacuum line from the petcock diaphragm connected to the left carb?  Did you put the needles in the slides ok?  Could they be propping up the slides when you throttle up, keeping the slides open?

If you assemble the various spacers and washers on the needle in the wrong order you could get this problem.

slightly bent needles could give you the problem

Not putting the caps back on the vacum nipples could do this too.

Tight exhaust valves have caused this problem for some people. Also you said the intake boots were good but did you check the big orings between the boots and engine?

Yeah check your cam valve clearances. Intake valves going out of tolerance often cause the "high idle hang" and otherwise futz with the combustion when you've eliminated the carbs.
