Title: GS500 Clip on handlebars in Australia
Post by: visionthing on March 14, 2006, 05:42:01 PM
Guys, girls and others,

I've tracked down a guy in Melbourne called Ron Tingate who custom makes clip-ons for the GS500. I just went out to his place & bought a pair. They clip on *under* the triple clamp and then rise about 50mm to have the bars just above the triple. Of course, this also leaves the fork tube adjustment and I dare say the clip-ons themselves can be raised & lowered too.

Welded and chromed, $AUD130 a pair! ( Just under $100 US to our American friends)

Rod runs it from home, so it is probably inappropriate to post his phone number here. Just drop a line and I'll pass it on.

Cheers

Bruce

Thankz for the info, but I believe I speak for all the US riders that the shipping costs would not be worthwhile.  It would be cheaper to buy a set off EBAY for $120

Hi Vision

I have a pair on Tingate clipons on mine. I did have them mounted above the top triple clamp, but moved them under so I could get my fairing on.

After reading your post again I think mine might be a different style. I got mine second hand for $50

We need to see some pics as well  :thumb:

i had a set on order from tingate. after waiting 6 weeks i called for an eta. i was then told Ron was away for another 5-6 weeks and then it would be a few more weeks until i would get my handlebars.
so after being screwed around for so long i made my own set :thumb:

i have these mounted above the triple clamps which i have raised through the top clamp by about 35mm. i have ound her to be alot more stable now through corners. She no longer has any chicken strips. i still find i have a greater degree of control over the bike and its steering. but its all personal. i like an aggressive riding position. I am just finishing my rear set design and i should have my prototype set made within 2 weeks, and hopefully i will install my linkages to raise the backend about 20mm.  :thumb:
if you make it yourself there is no one else to blame when it doesn't work !

Hey mate.

We met at the Gembrook pub the other day.
You got me thinking about the clip-ons so I chased around. Rod has promised a week, so we shall see.

I've started the hunt for replacement rearsets, such as the CBR600 based idea of Pablos (linked elsewhere around here)

I live in Port Melb, and have nothing but and underground carspace. No place or tools to work with to build. I'm a consumer!

Cheers

Bruce
