Title: PFFFFT sound?
Post by: JoChan23 on March 16, 2006, 02:15:34 PM
It sounds like a gush of air 'PPFFFFFTTT' comes out somewhere around the carbs/cylinders right after the engine chugs.   Boy i know that sounds like a terrible description lol
It sounds like chug pfft chug pfft

Any Clue?

also check the vacuum caps on the top of the carbs to see if one is cracked or gone entirely

also when was the last time you check the valves?  You might be getting a llittle blow back through the carbs.

This is valves.  I know what you're hearing...I have it on my TL.

damaging?  not really.  Serious hinderence to performance?  Wear accellerator?  Potentially dangerous?  Bad idea to keeo?  Yeah.

A good dlr will be able to do a valve check and adjust for under $400.  The one I'm htting up for my TL claims $300 + cost of shims, or $150 if I just take them the motor.  I'd suggest having it checked.

Wow, screw that.  It's like a 45 minute job if you have everything you need close at hand.  Download the video that Kerry made (it's floating around somewhere, do a search) and follow along.  You'll need a dial caliper, metric feeler gauge, and a tool to depress the shim bucket (about $30 online).

What?  You can drop the motor in like 30 minutes...lol.  I'm doing that with my TL for reason to strip that stupid paint off my frame.

(...and I despise dealing with valve shims myself...)
