Title: Vernal Equinox, 20-March-06 -- Let's go Ridin'
Post by: RedShift on March 18, 2006, 12:27:47 PM
As a member of the northern hemisphere, above the 43rd parallel, I've neen jonesing to ride.  Apart from a thaw event 10 days back that caused a lot of local flooding, it's been just a bit too cold to ride.  But Monday is the first day of spring (http://scienceworld.wolfram.com/astronomy/VernalEquinox.html) (at 18:19 GMT -- 3:19 pm in my parts), and the forecast is for 3°C (~38°F) high temperature with no chance of precip between now and then.

I'm riding to work, perhaps a stress-relief lunch break.  If the weather holds, I'll try for riding the rest of the week as well.

Who's in with me to celebrate the first day of spring with a ride?  To work, after work, whatever -- just get out there no matter how cold -- but skip it if the weather or road conditions are crap.

Bringing my bike home tomorrow(from the rent's garage in WI to my small garage in MN)  so I'll be riding as soon as the snow melts around the townhomes i live in.  We got a lot of snow in the last week(though i off in MI for the week) and they do a terrible job of plowing.  Fortunately the forcast is for lots of sun and highs above freezing so it shouldn't be too long before I take the bike out.  Have a good ride :thumb:

I feel for you Man.  Minnesota is closer to the North Pole than the atlas suggests.  If it wasn't for the direction of the Jet Stream, I'd be seeing the same snow you do.

It just a matter of time though.  Even you'll be seeing better weather soon.  Here's raising a glass that you'll be ready to (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/redshift/Ride.gif) soon.

I assume that since I'm in Texas I'm not invited?

Good deal that you can finally ride again though! Congratulations!!

Sure, you're invited Alpha.  It's just not the same though.  You haven't been held hostage for 4 months while frozen precipitation lies in wait to lowside your ride.

Where ever you are, the first day of spring (or fall for those below the equator) is always a reason to ride.   :thumb:

I dunno, I seem to be out of comission more and more recently. I've been having to fanagle with jetting and dealing with my new filter as well as my most recent out-of-commission-escapade of losing one of my air/fuel screws. I get to put my new one in and reinstall the carbs tonight, so I can hopefully get riding by tomorrow. Unfortunately we're getting hail storms in tonight, so I might have to delay my riding once again.

Talking about 6-8 inches of snow tomorrow in Kansas City  :flipoff:.  Hasn't snowed significantly here since early December.  :icon_rolleyes:

Well, I was out there today.  Almost didn't get to go, but jumped the battery and got'er up and running.

A might brisk today -- the morning air was 22°F (-5°C) under bright sunlight -- no clouds -- 20 MPH East wind.  Not much better on the way home -- barely 32°F (Zero°C) and just as windy.  Still, great to be out there even if it didn't feel like Spring.  Tough -- I'm riding 'til it snows.

Hope the rest of you lot get out there.  Ride safe...

It rained on me today.  Which was good because I had a lot of bugs all over my jacket from the Doc Wong group ride yesterday. :icon_mrgreen:

Scratch, you remind me that I should give my Joe Rocket Meteor 3.0 jacket a shower sometime soon.  Scrub-a-dub with a bristle brush, soap & water, hand dry, and a follow up with a can of water proofing.  Ready for another riding season.
