Title: Bike runs better with Throttle side Spark Plug cap off.
Post by: jefferygs500 on March 19, 2006, 03:37:38 PM
hey guys. my bike wasn't working right since a couple of days, been working at it steady and can't seem to find anything out. this evenin i started the bike up, and pulled the spark plug cap of on the throttle side. The bike idled much better, just like normal, when i put it back on she idles really rough just like she's Mis firing. what could this be?
maybe a bad plug wire or Cap or maybe it is the coil not sure
Help please
Thanks

Hey try starting the bike and pulling the spark plug from the left and the right. See if the bike cuts off when you do either one. My bike was running kinda rough and i had a great loss of power. I pulled the left spark plug wire and the bike cut off. Started it back up and did the samething to the right and the bike cut off. I pulled the left plug and it was only running on one cylinder, that plug was fouled. Changed the plugs and i was all set. Try the plugs first they are a cheap fix.

got new plugs same thing, when i pull the left one off on the clutch side, she doesn't work at all barly, when i pull the right one off on the throttle side, she runs smoother, and when i put the wire near the plug she starts to stumble and like she's gonna quit. I'm thinkin it's the coil, i tryed plugs and a new wire. only thing left is the coil maybe
thanks guys, anything else?

If you got new plugs, then I agree that it's probably a bad coil.  You can check the spark with a cheap spark tester.  You can get one at just about any auto parts store for a few dollars.

Try swapping the ignition coils and see if the problem switches sides.

Hey, yeah, that's even cheaper than a spark tester.
