    1/4 throttle - how to?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
just some info I thought I'd pass along in case anyone else was looking

I ended up finding an SV650 1/5 throttle (advertised to fit all 03 TO 05 SV650S,SV650,SV1000S,SV1000) on ebay for 25 bucks.  it was a complete grip tube and even a grip already on it.  I installed it last weekend and fits fine in my stock 96 throttle switch housing.  had to adjust the cable to give a bit more slack, but other then that, no cutting and works just fine.  I really like the shortened twist feel now and it doesn't make our bikes too twitchy

While I didn't see a particular listing for the throttle itself, they confirmed with me that they are available and can be contacted via info here on their website

here's an active auction for a description and pic.

lastly - looking at it up close and comparing it with the stock one, i was thinking that all it is, is the diameter of the circle that the throttle cable wraps around is larger then stock by a little bit.   i think that one could fab up a plastic trim that's about  3/4 circumference of a full circle and a few mm thick to add to the diameter and that would do it.

either way, hopefully any of these options are helpful to those that might be have beening thinking about something similiar.

I just did the swap. What a difference. This is really great, why didn't they use a 1/5 throttle on the GS. I allways had to reposition my hand when driving. Now it's just one turn.

I could recommend this to enyone.   :thumb:

Thanks for the post. How's the quality compared with the stock part?  Not complex, but it's sure not a part I'd want to fail 20 miles outside of Moose Lick WV, either...

The quality looks good. I've only driven it for like 40 miles.
I don't know the routing of the cables, but in the SV throttle there's an opportunity to mount 2 cables.

'Well you'll have to make sure that all the adjustment opputunities are in. I mean:
- close to the throttle there's a bold where you can adjust the throttle cable lenght. Screw this one in all the way.

You can try to get the new throttle on now, if this doesn't work, you'll have to get under the tank to screw in the adjuster between both carbs.

I had to do this in order to make sure there is a little bit of play in the throttle.

Good luck

glad you guys got something out of my original write up.

i love the 1/5 throttle feel.  install was easy - didn't take that long and well worth it for me.

definitely is worth doing. install is relatively easy might need an extra set of hands unless you do remove the gas tank and loosen the cables from there. but it's feels so much better imo. hope your install goes well.

Is there anyway to modify stock throttle handle, to make it 1/5 turns? Maybe anyone has done it?
