I've got the "Lunchbox" filter you're talking about. You're going to have to rejet your bike in order to make it run properly, as it will be too lean. I enjoy the change in the intake noise (gives it a snarly type growl on acceleration) it gave and I can feel a stronger pull, but I need to get my jetting settings locked in with some dyno tuning.

Well, first off... what year model do you have? There are infinite threads on jetting information for each model, as well as numerous instructionals in the FAQ section. It's not difficult and not expensive if you do it yourself.

it's a 1991 Gs500E. I never found any threads about rejetting. maybe i don't look in the right spots. how much would this cost?

...No. Why would you need to get a new exhaust? You can do filter only, just jet it accordingly.
