I was wondering, when filling up, does the 2000 gs500e have a sensor to tell you if the gas tank is full (like a car) , or do i have to jus eyeball it?
thanks
No, there's no sensor. Just fill it up with the nozzle down past the fill neck until the gas cuts off. Then carefully top it off. If you spill a little bit it's no big deal, it will just drain down by your right foot.

As Mandres says for filling. For the other end of the scale, you do know about "reserve" on the petcock?
And what sort of sensor do cars have? I think that the gas pump is the one that "senses" the gas and shuts off. As it fills the car with gas, the tank becomes full and gas accumulates in the filler neck. At a certain point, the gas pump "feels" where the gas level is and shuts itself off. No?
Am I throwing up bricks?
Yes, that's right. The pump nozzle has some kind of shutoff mechanism to turn off the flow when the gas level in the tank reaches the end of the nozzle. No sensors involved in any gas tank I've ever heard of.

for the love of god, and your self go to the msf and ask that question.
then come back and tell me how many of the girls there laughed at you.

And I'm laughing right now. LOL
Welcome, Sam_j.
If the nozzle has the foreskin, grab a paper towel that is hopefully available at the gas station and use it to pull back the foreskin. Put the nozzle against the far side of the filler neck in the tank and slide it down until you feel it 'give', or when the end of the nozzle has just passed the bottom of the filler neck. Fill until it stops, but watch it as you're filling just in case it doesn't stop.

There's a little flat gizmo sold in the Aerostitch catalog that apparently slides into place to hold the fore... uh, accordian-bellows style vapor recovery seal back and away from the nozzle tip, in the same way it's held back when filling a car. Haven't bought one yet (haven't run across that style yet) but it's on my list.
As for the metaphorical implications... ouch.
Ok we must have different gas pumps out here.
I know I've seen them, and used the type, but I don't remember where. Might have been out-of-state. Seems like YA PITA from the politicos.
oh my god......fore what? :o

I know I'm new here, but I dont think he's asking that retarded of a question.
I mean, when i was learning about my bike, I asked (myself) "Where can i find a aftermarket gas gauge?"
You know, i looked it up, and kinda really figured I didnt need one, but maybe this guys is just learning.
Agreed, and I can see where the compfusion about the gas comes in. He's new, so lets answer his questions...as well as give him grief.

Yep, just eyeball it to the bottom of the filler neck. If you fill up while holding the bike vertical you can get a little more gas in there. Wasn't the concensus about 40-50 miles?
Anyhow, that can be a problem if you overfill. Your crotch will get very wet. The burning sensation goes away eventually. :o
Welcome to the board! Realize that *most* of us are nice, well-meaning people that wish you the best in motorcycling. The rest need to ride more. :icon_mrgreen:
Oh yeah, if you haven't taken the MSF you should do that. http://www.msf-usa.org
hey guys
thanks for the help, and the random comments, got to admit its entertaining reading them at work!

the best way to know for sure...try it yourself!
the pump will stop automatically as the sensor is built into the pump not the car or bike.
here gas pumps has a little hole upon gasoline one which is a piping for a pressure sensor, when the tank goes filled or the gas goes harldy into, then the pressure sensor stops the pump....i don't know what is the system used in the USA but maybe it's the same...here most pumps use Marconi equipment.
So besides getting all the Ducati's, Ferarri's, Maseratti's, Vespa's, etc...you also get Marconi pumps!?!
I know how petrol-pumps shut themselves off when the tank is full :icon_lol: ........but I am not telling...unless someones asks me very nicely :icon_twisted:
What is petrol??????
Petrol is like Gasolene........only its more expensive!!
And where do they have that Canada and Europe????? :icon_razz: :icon_razz: :icon_razz: :icon_razz: :icon_razz: :icon_razz:

sorry, I miss the meaning of that! :D
Most fuel station here uses Marconi components. It' a worldwide known company for this kind of things. I can only tell you that you wrote Maseratti, the correct is Maserati, now a company holded by Ferrari group ;)
You don't have to ask me nicely. I'll tell you.
Here's a link or two.

Whoops! Sorry about the mis-spelling. I was kind of making fun that you have all these exotic vehicle (to us) over there, and also have "exotic" pumps as well.
