I bought a new pair of a*s and they are wonderfully comfy but ridiculously slippery! I'm terrified of dumping the clutch and flying through the air to scuff up my pretty new leather.
So... at lunch I ran over to my bike store and got new grips - very squishy toothy things - but that still doesn't solve my problem. Do they make ridged clutch and brake levers? If not, what do I do? I heard there was some motorcycle spray sticky stuff for use with this type of situation.
Which A* gloves are you talking about?

It might just be a matter of getting used to the new glove... Kinda like when I started riding with my Cold-Fronts... It took a while to get used to... Then I switched back to my MotoGP gloves and had to get used to it again.
I've found that I can't ride at all without gloves.... It's just too odd. :laugh:
If you think that's hard, wait till you try riding in insulated winter riding gloves. They started out stiff as a board, and I still can't feel much of anything. I guess I'll get used to it.
Dunno, but my first thought is that if you need a lever to be texturized, you must be doing something unusual, because it's hard to envision how it would help. You are hooking your fingers over the levers, right?

Yup, me too... Cold Front Carbons, then back to Joe Rocket Sonics, then back the Cold Fronts when a snap came through.. sort of feels like riding with oven mitts on.
Scary, in fact. I pretty much only pull them out when I'm going to lose feeling in my hands anyway if I don't...

I don't know that I've ever thought about this? I have 3 other pairs of gloves, all are fine. But with these I feel like my fingers are going to slide right off the clutch - infact they almost slipped right off the other night, scared the crap out of me - but like you've all said - I figure I will get used to them - : )
You could wrap some traction material around the clutch lever maybe. Something like grip-tape for skateboards or even textured shelf paper might work.

+1 to scuffing the palm and fingers up a little. Use some sand paper to rough up that smooth leather a little. With time they will break in and feel better though.

Same here with the cold front carbons. While they're really comfy for me now, they started off waaaaaaay too rigid. I couldn't feel a thing. There's gonna be a break-in period for any quality glove I'd think, so that would apply to your new alpinestars.
Plus, a fair amount of stunters wear alpinestars. Maybe those were made with the intent of being able to easily dump the clutch. I'm kidding, of course.

yes I am! I used the rear brake a couple of weeks ago and I didn't even realize I was doing it! It was an awesome feeling... I also took the stairs the other day for the first time and have started wearing heels again for an hour a day - to get used to walking again! I am about 90% healed - monday will be 6 months post-op, and it takes about 8 months to heal a ligament completely!
