i just t a 15tooth sprocket on my 99 gs500 and to my surprise it gave me a little teeny tiny bit of acceleration.but other than that it didn't change anything rpm or seedo wise.i think that you wpoul have to drop way more than 1tooth for there to be any changes on the rpm's.so if anyone wants to know there you go thats the answer to what will happen if you put a 15tooth sprocket on your gs500. :2guns:
ill let u know soon! im installing mine next week
You could work this out, the revs for a given speed should go up by 16/15.
it definately felt like i had lost some on the top end...and revs higher too

This is true for my '00. I previously ran at about 6400 rpm at an indicated 80mph. Now, with a 15t sprocket, it's closer to 7k rpm at the same speed (6400*(16/15)=6800). The increased top gear acceleration at highway speeds is also indicative of the change in RPMs.
I love the 15t, even with a commute that's 80% highway. The extra response it provides is quite useful in Atlanta traffic. I don't think it's affected my mpg too badly, either. Maybe a slight loss. The colder weather has had a much greater impact, in that regard. I'll have more quantitative results when the weather warms up again.
I rev at higher RPMs (some 15/16 like ukchickenlover said)... But, it was worth it. :icon_mrgreen: I don't want to go back to a 16t. :nono:
with a 16tooth i was running 5000rpm at 60mph with a 15tooth it is the same at 5000rpm.and as far as power or pickup there is not a lot of difference.so i may be going down to a 13tooth in the next couple of weeks just to see what happens.i will try to let you know.
did u buy the bike used? sounds obvious but maybe u had a 15t already! just do urself a favor and count the teeth on both the old and the new and let us know what u find out
i counted the teeth and it had a 16tooth on it already.now it has a 15tooth on it.
i counted the teth on the old sprocket befor i even opened the new one.i am not a rocketscientist but i am not a dumbass eather. :icon_twisted:
Are you drunk or do you just suck at typing???????

I can't see how you can change the sprocket without affecting the revs for a given speed.

what about a 14 tooth front sproket? would that make a difference i wonder? thinking about getting a smaller one for mine just don't no what yet
IMO a 15t makes a noticable difference. If you're goal isn't the best MPG and you don't ride TONS of freeway miles, I think it's totally worth it.
