05' GS500F , I replaced the H-4 bulb with a sylvainia silverstar, much better than stock. Its got a whiter, crisper light that just seems to light up the road better than stock. Well I would really love to find a replacement for that crappy looking 6 volt bulb for the parking light under the main high/low bulb. Its just got that dim yellow look to it, and its driving me crazier than normal ! Has anyone done any mods, or has anyone found a differant bulb ? ? :2guns:
All bulbson a 12 volt bike are 12 volt - you must mean 6 watt - My 2001 does not have the bulb you are talking about - but why not try a white LED?
Yes, you are right its a 6 watt bulb. My bad. Would love to find an LED replacement ?

Sweet great site. Thanks Alpha
Hey let us know how you make out if you do the mod please . CHEERS !
I actually have a color changing LED in there...
MJM - only the f models have the bulb.
I can't find a picture of the product on the net. It's a 7-color changing LED blub... I'll try and take a video clip tonite for ya, providing my valve cover gasket change goes well.
I shot a video clip of my parking light mod...

Dude. That looks AWESOME!!!!! And since it is LED it doesn't draw hardly any power!
Thankz Alpha!
Now doesn't that clip make you wish you kept your fairings on?
I think I know where the package is, so I'll take a picture of it and post it up sometime today.

No, because I think I could hide that somewhere pretty easily on my bike, possibly even wire a bunch of them up, and have a "parking light" bike light-up show!
Hey Annguyen, how does that look with the headlight on? Is there any way we could talk you into taking another video with the headlight on?
-Turd.
Fine Fine...
I'm uploading as we speak... I've got two clips about 4mb each
http://media.putfile.com/7-color-LED-parking-light-during-daytime-with-headlight-on1
I can't upload the second right now because the putfile.com site is overloaded??? Oh well
Not nearly as cool in the daytime. That's a cool nighttime thing though!
Yeah. I'm gonna take another clip tonight and hopefully I can upload the file.
Looking on Superbrights, I have no idea which bulb would be suitab;e as a replacement from parking light?
also, in general, roughly how many watts do these led replacement lights draw?
from memory from uni physics....
P=IV
Power (watts) = current (amps) X potential difference (volts) :dunno_white:
ever get that video? The light always does that, even when headlight is on?
also, I'm trying to take mine out, is there a secret or am I completely worthless? I tried turning it and pulling, just pulling, and it seems pretty dang snug. I'm guessing I'm just too scared of breaking something so I don't try hard enough.
hey, uh..... would LOVE to know if you ever found out, or remembered, where you got the color changing LED from....
i got like 30 leds form china, did all the ones in my trucks dash and then put the last one in the head light. it nice
I hate china?.... not really....
that video doesnt work, it just show the quicktime thing with a ? in it. i hate quicktime
well, it was awesome while it lasted... for sure.
I'll try and take another clip and host it somewhere else... Any ideas where???
Anyway... I got the bulb from my local AUTOZONE. I think about $8 for a two pack
Oh yeah... To remove, you just remove the black rubber condom (hehe) and you pull the bulb out... It has a rubber grommet that keeps the bulb in place, but it's flexible.

send to me via AIM, i will host
cool beans! Thankz
uhm, surprisingly, I thought he was kidding when he said Autozone... but I drive by one most days, so whats the harm....
Well... amazingly, he was serious... you can find them at autozone.... and they plug right in.

The Result
BINGO!
Although the LED isn't THAT bright... I think you must have had the camera set for night time pics, therefore capturing MORE light.
yea, actually I just slowed the shutter speed down to about 400... I'm gonna photoshop that pic up I think....

Not as good as the original video... by Anng... but whatever.
I'm going outside to take a video clip of the lights right now.
you're TOTALLY jocking my style.
jocker.
Here's tonight's attempt at a video clip...
I really need a new camera

This has the front color changing LED, the BLUE LED's in the gauges, and the additional LED's for brake lights
I'd really like to go blue LED's for the gauge, and the red ones for the brake light.
I was hoping to find some Amber LED strips and steal your idea for turn signals/underlighting.
I'm still trying to find some amber LED strips to insert into the slots in the front fairings
I think I just found some... I'll let ya know how they look
thanks....
how much shaZam! do you think I'd recieve if I put Blue LED Strips instead of Amber? Po-Po wouldn't enjoy it too much.
This.... is where Sir Teflon shall join the conversation....
STUNNA!
Could we have a pic of what the bulb itself looks like :icon_lol:
Check on the previous page of this thread...

opps, my bad! :icon_confused:
No prob, Bob!
I noticed Autolumination has Surface Mounted Led 194 bulbs available now. These produce the most light right? :dunno_white:
http://autolumination.com/194.htm
Here's a pic.
Would these be the best to get or can't they handle the heat generated by the F models headlamp?
I notice other leds on that page have heatsinks to allow 'constant on' usage.
i have been useing the leds like the ones my dash takes in my truck not very bright but great at night when parked on the side of the road up in the mountains
NOT very bright? So why are they great? Less draining of the battery?
The led I posted is supposed to be very bright. Only wish I could find a seller of them here in Australia. The postage from the US is more than the bulb.
most dash lights arent that bright. and thats what i used.
Alright I took my stock 2005 GS500F light out to have a look at its size.
Firstly it has printed on it 12V5W W5W
so its a 12 volt, 5 watt , size 5W5
the bulb diameter is aprox 10mm
now the limiting factor is the hole in the headlight reflector and it can accommodate a bulb with a diameter upto 13mm.
Now the hunt begins!
i wonder how hard it would be to convert it to h4 and then get a hid kit hell even a H3 would work better i think
Well it sucks being in Australia. Our lack of 'cost effective' choice means I had to compromise on some of my order.
I have ordered 194 Refractor 5 LED (Xenon White) Wedge Bulb for my Parking Light and for my Speedo and Tacho.
It features one high intensity (circuit board type) led facing forward and 4 normal leds shining sideways to spread the light out. This should ensure the Parking light reflector fully lights up. Should also work well for the gauges. The maximum diameter of the bulb is 13mm.
Surely these will be brighter than the current bulb and will use a lot less power.

For my idiot lights I have gone with 4 white leds (you just can't easily (cheaply) get coloured leds down here!!!). Not sure if they are non polarised so I might have to leave the blinker light!
These leds are T5 3 Power LED (Xenon White) Dash Wedge Bulb. They feature 3 circuit board type leds. They should work fine but I would have preferred the coloured ones. Why did the 2004/05/06/07 have to have smaller bulbs for its idiot lights? :cookoo:

I have found that my front parking light dims if it doesn't make proper contact with the bulb socket.
Problem is the LED moves around after riding on bumpy roads.
I have tried a few different methods of trying to keep the bulb more firmly in the socket.
At the moment what is working is, I bent the contact wires of the led sideways so it runs around the edge of the LED's wedge (does that make sense?)
Any how I'd still love for my LED Front Positioning light to be even brighter!!! Hmmm, wonder what other types of LED I could try :dunno_white:
I replaced my headlight as well with a true blue and I had the same problem so I just disconnected it. I left the bulb in there just removed one of the leads so it wouldn't work.
I just upgraded my front parking light led with a newer brighter one. Got it on Ebay for $10 AUS + P&H $2.50 AUS

Brand new brightest Refractor 5-High Power LED 168/194/T10/W5W Wedge bulb (Xenon White)
It uses high intensity LED, of which one Power LED shining in forward direction, and four Power LEDs shining sideway.
Compared with filament bulbs, it has no heat output and extremely low power consumption. It works at 12V.

I tell you, these Surface Mounted LED's are more than twice as bright as my old LED light (see above)]
Visibility with a capital V :thumb:
I finally took a photo of my new surface mounted front parking light LEDs :thumb:
So first a pic of my old #194 traditional LED's
(http://img469.imageshack.us/img469/974/frontled3ti2.jpg)
now a pic of my new #194 surface mounted LED's

Though the pictures never do this kind of thing full justice you can still see they are remarkably brighter.
Now go get them!!!
how legal are the color changing LEDs, and i am looking on ebay for the 194 LED superbright, but there is freaking 1400 of them, any recommendations on the number of leds or their positions?
Nas
Rules vary in each country and even state.
In Australia they are illegal.
I have gone back to my standard incandescent 5watt globe for my front parking light.
As the headlight and parking light share the same enclosure, no LED I have tried is capable of withstanding the high temperatures (generated by the headlight) inside the headlight housing.
I have burnt out 2 different types of LED each twice
What is the name of/where did you get the red light bar that's above the license plate? I like how it's designed, good for when people don't see your taillight brighten. I also noticed the Mass plate, where in Mass are you?
I currently have the blue led in the parking light position, and i replaced the gauge lights with blue as well, looks really sweet at night. i think im going to take some leds and wire them either to the underside of the tail, or inside the rear footrest and hook them up for my blinkers, and take my flush mounts off. ive actually thought about putting some LED/neons on the inside of the bike, but if i do im going to take my time and make sure it doesnt turn out all shitty.
How long have you had your front parking led in place?
I have yet to find one that lasts longer than 6 months
um.. its been in there probably 2-3 months, bike is sitting in the barn winterized as of right now. but the LED I bought only cost like a buck. so it doesnt really matter to me if it burns out. HAs anyone here put in any custom turn signals? i have some aftermarket signals, and im looking to take them off, and put in some leds for my turn signals, not sure where to put them yet. I thought maybe do to lines (small little bulbs) on the underside of the tail, or even install them on the rear footpegs, and wire them to the signals. Im trying to get some turn signals that are barely noticable until they are flashing
I'm doing the new LED turn signals. Go to the "turn signal woes" thread to see the possible issues. When I get out I'll take pics they look sweet!
Blue lights on any vehicle while moving is illegal in all 50 states. Afraid you will be mistaken for a cop!
Mary
I got a yellow 194 incandesent bulb in mine. Looks sweet against the white Silver star H4 headlight. Got a pair off Ebay for like $5. LEDs are not bright enough. I got a bunch of 194 LEDS they just didn't do the trick. So I went with a colored incandesent. I would like to cut out the whole bulb and put a projector fog light in it's place.

that would be sweet, i have a led that has 4 bulbs in one, in place of the parking light and its pretty bright, going down the highway you can see a faint blueish color when coming up to the white speed limit signs.
The last LED's I put in mine were at least twice as bright as the stock incandescent bulb... the problem is they just can't hack the heat generated from the main head light.
Sick of having LED's burn out on me, I installed a Philips Blue Vision 5W5 light
(http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/4296/pbvw5wgy7.jpg)
The light bulb is blue in appearance when off, but makes an ultra white light when on to match the colour output of the Philips X-treme Power +80% headlight I have.
