On the bottom between the exhaust.

Is it the one facing straight down?  I found what looks like an oil pan towards the front of the engine, held by four bolts.  Then there was a much larger bolt, not in the middle, but kinda towards the left side of the bike.

on the very bottom of your bike there is a HUGE bolt/plug that sits on the oil pan above the exhuast... it points straight down

Takes a 17mm socket if I remember correctly.  Prefer a 6-point if you're got one in your tool box.

I have an '04.  Thankz guys.  I thought it was it, but those parts fiche only identified it as a plug...  Not an oil plug.  I didn't want to start unbolting everything I saw just to test it out.

The link will take you to a supplier for magnetic drain plugs, the GS500e is not listed but it does say e-mail for applications. I am pretty sure the difference between the plugs over the years relates only to the size of the head, we know it has changed from 21 to 17mm but I think the actual thread diam`and pitch remain the same .... How do I know???  If you check the part no`s of the sump pan on bike bandit you will see no change between the years, therefore no mods have been made to it, therefore the hole diameter and thread has remained the same throughout. An alteration to the plug has been made but it still fits the sump which hasnt been altered so it can only be the bolt head thats changed. I am certain that the plugs are interchangable.... :thumb:

Wrecent_Wryder and sledge:

I just noticed your post and we do have magnetic drain plugs for all year GS500's.  All years use the same drain plug thread and pitch.  We stock it as MP-05, but it can be found through our application search.

Just in case you are interested.  Any questions, just send me an e-mail.

Thanks!

The 1989-2002 GS500 uses Fram CH6000.
