Guys,
I've just had a sports can fitted, and the K&N filter is ordered and on the way.
What I want to do is get the bike tuned for the exhaust & filter. I know I'm running lean on the pilot, but I'm not 100% sure that I know which is the pilot screw.
Anyone got any diagrams or pics of the carbs with which is which?
Cheers
Bruce
in order to get decent performance with those mods you're going to have to actually remove the carbs and swap out the stock jets with larger ones. The GS comes stock jetted fairly lean (too much air, not enough fuel in the mixture). Adding the exhaust and filter will add even more air, and could be potentially dangerous for your engine. Run a search on "jetting" and you'll find all the info you need.

The FIRST thing you need to do is specify what exhaust you're putting on: slip on, or a full system? Also, what K&N filter are you putting in? There are at least 3 different types which all take their own jetting settings. Also what year model do you have? That will make a BIG difference on what jetting you are going to need.
Check out the FAQ for how-tos on jetting and diagrams.
Cheers for the updates.
Since the K&N isn't due here yet, and I can already tell that she is running lean 1/8-1/4 throttle, I thought I might as well do the pilot first.
I'm investing in a larger mains (127.5) & will just raise the needle with a washer. So yes, the carbs ARE coming out. & i'm copy & pasted all the good FAQs about it already! :)
This was merely a interim step to keep the bike as happy as possible until that is done.
The K&N is an insert type & I've only added a can, not a full exhaust.
Either way, I've not been able to find any manuals or details on the carbs other than the faqs, and they are more rebuild/replace bits than tuning.
Cheers
