Title: how to break the gs500

Toronto city roads are lame, potholes a mile deep, ruts a metre high...my GS has a rough time. What suffers when my front suspension bottoms out doing 50-60kph? Other than watching out for my manhood, should I be checking for sheared bolts? chunks off my tyre? What are other peoples experience with subjecting the GS to rough roads on a regular basis?

Check your fork seals, tires, wheels, axle bolt torque, as well as triple clamp tightness, on a regular basis. Just to be safe, y'know?

Buy some progressive springs.  If your avatar is you, the stock springs are likely not enough.  And what roads are causing you that much grief?  I'm on the 404/DVP, 401 and downtown T.O. nearly each and every day, and the 400 and 427/QEW most of last year.  Yeah, we've got our share of pot holes but for the most part the roads really aren't that bad.

Thats very true, T.O. isn't really that bad. Now Winnipeg, thats another story. I wish I was still in Taranah. Asside from the road surface being better, the layout is much better. with the DVP, 401, and the QEW, (and I guess the 407 too but its kinda far north and the whole toll thing sucks), but anyways what I'm getting at is that motoring around T. is alot easier thanks to good layout but all that gets thrown out the window during rush hour time :mad: - They should call it the Don Valley Parkinglot! ... and then well the whole 2.5Million more ppl that Toronto has over Winnipeg kinda changes things  :icon_lol: ... that, I don't miss!  :thumb:

I find that any of the streets running east/west south of bloor are pretty unpredictable in terms of whats coming at you next on the road, a lot of washboard irregularities in the roads. Major streets like steeles, yonge arnt so bad. Manhole covers in TO I find can bet set really low - hitting one when braking is no fun! The newer highways are babybottom smooth, but I dont use them much. Generally my front suspension sags a good 2-3 inches with me on it leaning forward - I'm not a huge person, but progressives are on the list
