Title: helmet for long narrow head?
Post by: zoltan on June 09, 2003, 05:30:46 AM
my head is kinda oval shaped. long front to back, but narrower side to side. i've always had problems finding bicycle helmets that didn't squeeze my forehead, and now i'm having the same problems in motorcycle helmets. i've tried on hjc and shoei, but neither fit me and my head didn't sit all the way up in the helmet until i went to a too big size. are there any helmets out there that'll fit me comfortably without having to spend serious serious bucks?

Look at Arai - they fit more oval shaped heads and have several shell shapes.  The Signet, in particular, is their longest/narrowest oval shape.  Not cheap, but totally worth it for the right fit.  If you can find last year's model, the Signet GT, you can probably get a significant discount over the current GT-R.

My head is shaped like yours.  I tried on a Shoei that fit well once.  I think it was the RF-900 or something like that.

My HJC CL-12 fits perfectly.  Snug on every square inch of my head, but not 'tight' anywhere.  Feels like it was molded to my head personally. :thumb:

Oval-heads unite! Whoo!

I would recommend a Shoei TZ-1 for a super-safe DOT and Snell approved helmet, or a Nolan N100E if you want to go the flip-up-face route. It bears mentioning that the Nolan sacrifices Snell approval for the convenience of the flip-face.

same here-got the arai signet gt last year.

check out: http://www.araiamericas.com/home.html and look up their helmet shape descriptions; each model has slightly different shape to it.
Title: Oval-heads!

Yah, Oval-heads!!

I Have a Shoei Tz-1 and it fits me nice and tight.  Arai is known for their ability to fit oval-shaped heads well.

shoei tz-1 fit the best for me!, and this was after trying on every helmet  I could find.  I nearly drove a few salesmen to drink after spending hours in the parts dept. It took me two months to find the right fit!

Yeah, you guys w/ Shoei's think you got funky shaped heads... If you can squeeze into a Signet, you've definately got alien head.

Quotebucks though. oh well, i'm not going to start putting a price on my head now...

Seriously, shop around for last year's model (Signet GT).  Most places probably won't stock them, but could probably order it if you ask.  I got mine less than 2 months ago and there didn't seem to be any shortage.  Saved $100 over current model.

Nothing personal Scratch, but I can't stand that saying. I would like to find the vagabund who coined that phrase and...... well...... I don't know, but it wouldn't be very nice.

:guns:  "Ten dollar helmet, ten dollar head"

Sorry, thats just how I feel.

i found a '02 for $350 shipped, so it's not quit so bad.

Hey - be happy you don't have a pin head like myself!  I have a Shoei RF-900 XXS!   :o

Course if I had a regular size head I would look like a bobblehead... So I guess in my case I will take it.

Don't feel bad snapper, I used to wear an XS, then I went to S an then M and now I'm down to a S again (what's happening?).

I had to find a TZ with the thicker cheek pads, too.

Scratch how old were you when you wore an XS?  7?

Just kidding!  Shoei is the only one that I know of that makes a helmet so small- aside from the kids ones.  I wish they would use a smaller shell though- cause I am a total bobble head with my helmet on!  Granted I have almost double the padding that most folks get!

Hey Hey Hey. I've gone the whole Nancy Reagan route, and let me tell ya, it ain't gravy. Hard to look cool with skin-tight leathers and a Large-size helmet. First person to call me "speciel-ed biker" gets a fistful of boomstick!  :guns:
