Title: I've just gone from "those who will" to "those who have"
Post by: Egaeus on March 29, 2006, 07:34:23 PM
Low speed U-turn.  I went in a bit hot, got worried about hitting the edge of the road, target fixated on the edge  :icon_rolleyes:, hit the edge, went down as soon as my rear tire hit the pine needles.

Severe damage to my pride and my clutch lever.

D'OH!!!  Spring appears to be the time to practice...  I ran a few tight U-Turns in a parking lot and realised that I really need to practice them more.

I think we should all go practice some. :thumb:

Glad you're allright.  What did you learn?

Hint: I want to hear you say, "Look in the direction I want to go".

The problem is that I already knew to look the direction I want to go.  I just didn't do it  :nono:.

The ironic part is that I was practicing tight toe-sliding U-turns in a parking lot the night before.

The hardest thing to do is to turn your head in the direction you want to go.  We are programmed to look at where the danger is, it's an animal instinct; stop, look, listen...we must unlearn, what we have learned (I just love Yoda).

I was actually praticing some u-turns today, and suprisingly, I did much better than at the MSF course.

I know the feeling, I laid mine down last thurs evening. Just leaving a client's house, they've got a sharp turn after getting on the street, at the edge of the street there isn't any roadside as it drops off right into a 5 foot culvert. Needless to say after getting too close to the edge of the new asphalt, I'm sliding backwards down the dirt embankment. What a surprise!
Didn't do too much damage to the bike (broken turn signals, tore up exhaust system & tail bag) or me (tore up insulated overalls, bumped & bruised).

Whats tight toe sliding?

It should have been tight, toe-sliding.  I had was doing U-turns and had the bike leaned over so far that it was scraping the toe-sliders (plastic protective pieces) on my riding boots.  I was trying to get comfortable with leaning it further, as well as practicing my U-turns.

I was wearing full gear. :thumb:

Well, I wore the nubs off of my new tires, and cleaned the oil off of them from my oil leak (after spraying it down at the car wash first).  That's about it.  You don't get much wear at 15mph. :)
