Title: Amazing what $10 can do for your bike...
Post by: calamari on March 29, 2006, 08:22:22 PM
I can't believe I waited this long to spend $10 on something extra for the bike... have a look.

Before (http://anfume.com/img/rimstripes_before.jpg), and After (http://anfume.com/img/rimstripes_after.jpg). Another view from the rear on the right (http://anfume.com/img/rimstripes_rear_right.jpg), and also from the left (http://anfume.com/img/rimstripes_rear_left.jpg).

I can only imagine what is going to look like at night  8)

That looks so freakin' awesome!!! I'm debating between that and polishing the lips. I don't think both together would look good.

Nice, though!!

The wheels for the newer bikes are black. Probably a 3/8" stripe, too.

rimstripes. they are relatively easy to set, but the whole ordeal does takes more than 30 minutes. I have never done it before, and you can see that I obtained good results. The only downside was waiting for them to arrive. The dealer took close to a week and 1/2 to get them for me. Next time I will buy online.  :thumb:

I ordered using a kawasaki dealer . Here's a shot of the package (http://anfume.com/img/rimstripes_package.jpg) I got (enough leftover one side of a rim).

And yes, it is reflective. I will inform how it reacts to water and the elements with time. Hopefully it won't just fall off  :icon_mrgreen:

What did you tell the dealer when you ordered the rimtape?  I'd like to get a whole set for only $10.  That's pretty cheap!

kinda looks like pin-stripe tape... is it the same stuff?

also, with straight tape going perpendicular around the wheel... does it bunch up or ripple at all? or is the stuff pretty stretchy? basically: does it go on smooth?

ME: "hello, I would like to get blue rimstripes for a suzuki gs500. reflective please..."
DEALER: "for rimstripes, the make & model of your motorcycle really doesn't matter"
ME: "I see"

don't know what pin-stripe is, sorry.

The tape does stretch, and all I can say is that I did have to peel back off a bit before I got it right in some parts. Basically the trick is not to strech the tape while you apply it (otherwise it will try to shrink when you are done).
Actually, I developed a technique doing this, and I think it works really good, but my gf wasn't around to take a pic of what I was doing, so i think tomorrow or something I will ask her to take a pic while I repeat the procedure with regular painter's tape on her car wheel  :icon_mrgreen:

The tape comes on one roll, 4 1/4"? stripes and you have to cut them apart... easy to do back with canter stand...i had my ol lady sit on the back seat so i could do the front...tape is pliable and installation suggestions come with it...Tapeworks.com

hi, how long have you had your stripes on? I am curious about how long it lasts before it starts to peel off. how about when you wash the bike?

ok I rechecked the price. it was actually $9.95 and $0.75 of tax  :thumb:

see I like these stripes, but I just think there a little too wide. the red ends up taking up the whole rim. personally I like the stipe a little thinner. maybe half as wide.

Just go to Pepboys and get some 5 dollar pinstriping. It's the same exact thing.

I looked at canadian tire today - they had thin pinstriping in all sorts of colors. I'm not sure if it was reflective. You can find it in the rice section at crappy tire. i think it was about 6 dollars.
