Title: ducati bikes
Post by: porsche4786 on March 29, 2006, 09:17:33 PM
Since when did Ducati make the classic bikes? http://www.ducati.com/bikes/index.jhtml They look old and slow, but they are 1000cc.....

Ducati's been making 2 of the SportClassics since February I think. They're going to make the third one later this year. They use the 1000DS (Dual Spark) engine that is in the Monster 1000 from '05 and the '06 S2R 2000. It's also in the Supersport 1000 and the big Multistrada. Good engine, and fairly reliable in Duc terms. I haven't read many issues regarding the air cooled Duc engines, but the liquid cooled ones are plagued with them.

Ooo, I think that engine is also in the MH900e bike, as well as the Hypermotard concept bike.

The Pual Smart 1000 has one of the nicest paint jobs I've ever seen.

How come?

Because it's a 992cc....with like 91hp. That would be quite fast wouldn't it?

Yeah, quite fast compared to our little bike, but any 600cc supersport could out race it. The Ducs is a much simpler engine than those 600cc I-4s. Air cooled with 2 valves per cylinder, much like our own. They do have a much flatter torque curve than the I-4s, too.

How much power does a 600cc lets say gsx-r600 produce? About the same?

About 105 at the wheel or so, but the torque peaks at roughly 40 ft-lbs and isn't nearly as broad as the Duc's twin.

Well then, I'd probably hurt myself if I took that duc for a spin thru a twisty road.

I love the classic repro bikes... The yellow with the stripe is almost as cool as the yellow Thruxton with the checkerboard stripe...  Almost.

It is so much cooler than a Thruxton.

I am going to start a donation drive to get you a Thruxton so you'll quit blabbing about it.  If it works I'm gong to start blabbing about a XB9R.

The 1000DS engine puts down 87.3 HP @ 8750 RPM and 62.8 ft-lb @ 6250 RPM. So roughly double the power of the GS all over the rev range.

I want the GT1000 to come out soon. The paul smart and sport are nice, but the GT is an old school standard - GT is to sport as bonneville is to thruxton. I want I want I want. Or I'll settle for the new 695 multistrada.

I like the Sport 1000 a lot better, personally. Much more café racer style. Retro. Cool. Sexy.

I'm not saying it's not hot, I'm simply saying the Sport 1000 trumps it by far.
