Ok so I have offically participated in my first daylight saving clock change......... this is soooo weird. The whole concept of everyone just changing the time.......AHHHHHHHHH so weird..... so right now I have lost an hour and I have to wait to fall to gain back the hour........ strangeness.... ok I am done now..... I need to try and think this thing over....... :dunno_white: :dunno_white: :dunno_white: :dunno_white: :dunno_white:
ya, wtf, i was just in the living room watching 1/2 baked nd thought man its 230am i need t ocrash. come in here to check the comp. and its 330. damn bill gates.

LOL I love half-baked....... oh and just for the record I live in Indiana and this is the first time the state has observed it ever if not in a long long time.....

Metric time is cool, too. :icon_razz: 100 minutes per hour, 10 hours per day, 10 days per week.
Yeah, I think we ought to do that.
In my philisophical opinion (spelling??), time is a flawed concept. Every law of nature has equations to figure out stuff. Gravity for example depends on mass of objects and whatever else (I'm not too edumacated). Energy depends on certain things as well.
Time on the other hand was a "man-made" concept. Yes they think that speed in space shuttle affects TIME, but what if that wasn't the case. I think that the speed affects the electrical flow of the machines, therefore, the clock looks like it was slow. I just lost my whole train of though on this subject. :dunno_white:

Youre getting into some Bill Nye the science guy shaZam!. It cant be just an electrical flow due to the fact the when your on the shuttle people here on earth ago faster, or you ago slower.... whatever. Basically the closer you travel to the speed of light the slower you ago. :thumb:
What about the fact that there is a leap year, or this stupid daylight savings time thing? If TIME were correct, there wouldn't be any of this stuff. From what I remember, time is based on how fast a particular substance went through it's half-life... hold on.. I'm gonna find it...
"Currently, the standard time interval (called conventional second, or simply second) is defined as 9 192 631 770 oscillations of a hyperfine transition in the 133Cs atom." - Wikipedia (TIME)
Whatever this atom is, you can change the rate of oscillations by affecting the surrounding environment (gravity, density of surroundings, energy possible, whatever). Therefore, time is not perfect.
Time imperfect = calender imperfect. I know this gets into another subject, but for example, the Mayan calendar stops on December 21, 2012 (from my first source... too lazy to verify this) Blah Blah Blah... Tired... going back to sleep

That makes sense, cause if you can change the the state of this atom by changing its surroundings them that makes what we call "TIME" here on earth relative. :thumb:

I LOVE YOU! I've been trying to think of that word throughout my posting in this thread. RELATIVE! :cookoo:
No prob.... I work 12 hour shift and when we get bored we spend all night talking bout blackholes and shaZam!. And the word "RELATIVE" is used quite frequently.

'time' is just like religion, politics, morality and family values... another invention of the human race.

I disagree. You are giving humans too much credit. We did not invent any of that.
Humans can't help BUT include religion, politics, morality, values, and time - among many other things, into our lives. They are universal. The religions change, politics differ..Morals and values are relative and subjective, etc. When you are a businessman in NYC, or a member of a tribe in the jungle makes no matter. Those things bond all humans.
Some might say "Well, I am not religious" or "I don't get into politics". Well, guess what - if you have "no religion", that in itself is a religion. It is still a belief. You can't help it; the idea enters your subconscious and you process it one way or the other. Believe or not, that is irrelevant.
Same with Politics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politics). You can't help but be political. It is not about being a republican, a democrat, or whatever. Politics refers to more than just government administration. It is a theory of social philosophy; how groups of people interact. The roots of politics go deeper than campaigns, presidents, and crap like that. Again, throughout the course of time of both humans and animals we have "elected" leaders. Whether it is the President of the US, or the leader of a pack of wolves. Some how - someway - a leader is put into a position of power and people - animals - whatever - follow it. Politics was born out of that instinct. The only thing we really created was the bureaucracy and red tape crap that surrounds our modern day political systems, whether it is government or corporate. We took nature's invent and ruined it and made things more difficult than it really is. That is all we really did.
As for morality and values? We didn't invent those either. They are both within us. That is what a conscience is for. That is our natural instinct; we didn't create that. We choose to obey or disobey it; we choose to further complicate things by adding governmental laws and social mores - but still, that is all we created. More red tape to complicate and dilute our human instincts. We seem to think the further we push ourselves from our instincts, the more evolved and "intellectual" we become. So we keep pushing.
And this little "time" thing? We sure didn't invent that; we are slaves to it ourselves. It is not something we can capture, maintain, or even manipulate. Sure, we can assign insignificant numbers and dates to it in an attempt to record and keep track of it, but we can't even control it let alone claim responsibility for inventing it. Time would exist whether we labeled it with digits or not. But to make ourselves feel better - and more in control - we have to label. We have to pretend we understand it, pretend that somehow we are the greatest power and that nothing is above us.
And that my friend - is why we are more foolish than the animals will ever be. Would you rather walk around pretending to be enlightened, claim responsibility for natural masterpieces that you cannot fully understand letalone claim responsibility for inventing? Or be able to lick your own balls like your dog can?
I know which one I'd rather be. :thumb:
The way we observe time is a human invention. As is the way we are seemingly controlled by time.
Thankfully Arizona is the only state that does not observe the whole spring forward/fall back crap.
Congrats you are now all by yourself!!!! lol lol
Yeah its nice not having to change the clocks here in AZ. But it's kinda confusing because part of the year we are same time as Pacific and then the other part of the year we are the same time as Mountain time zone.
so by not pbserving daylight savings AZ gets screwed anyway.
btw-all you guys have WAY too much TIME on your hands to be thinking about this.

what really? so you all just decided that you weren't gonna change your clocks? thats crazy.
so what happens if say, you live in one state, and then you work in another. would you get to go in late and be like "no sorry, I'm not late, its 9:00 in Aizona"
We should all switch to metric time. :thumb:

Losing an hour of sleep, for me, is like losing a loved one.
Arizona is cool. BTW, do you guys recognize MLK Day? I just remember the old "Public Enemy" song, "By the Time I Get to Arizona", from "Fear of a Black Planet." Probably the coolest beat to any rap song I have ever heard (except "The Last Song" by "Above the Law").

Time is not man made. We just have to measure it, because we live in it.
Relitivity states time is relative to your speed and position in space.
The Laws of thermodynamics is more of a view that time is a funtion of entropy. The 'arrow of time' in which the universe becomes more disorganized.
The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. We anly percieve time differntly because of our perspective.
Oh and about changing the measurements of time. Forget about it. Most people in the U.S. can't grasp the metric system.

Yeah AZ now recognizes MLK day, I remember when we didnt and there was a bunch of negative media attention about it.
Arizona will join us! They will have no choice but to join us. They will conform!

It's all thanks to the NFL. :2guns: No MLK day...No Superbowl...Bad Arizona voters!
Wait there is a football team in Arizona????????????
Everyone should just go off time on the Prime Meridian... or Zulu time as we call it in aviation.... When flying from time zone to time zone, you can't file a flight plan here, give an estimated time of arrival in local time (here) for a destination that is a few time zones away. it would just cause too much confusion. so everyone uses Zulu time. We also use the 24 hour clock. so there's no AM, PM B.S. either.
If we all used Standard time, it would be the same time everywhere... all the time, and things would be simple. but then again, I couldn't cross the border and celebrate New Years twice...  :icon_lol: :icon_lol: :icon_lol:

I remember when I was 7 an hour was an eternity.
I am 26 now and feel the hours ticking away by the second. Funny thing time does.
I bet when I am 50 the months will fly by.
This could be why I ride a GS everywhere I can whenever I can. rain or shine. why I sit an play with my kids all afternoon, instead of what TV.
Time is priceless. I am glad I am still young now that I know.

Zulu would be easier if everyone used it and you didnt have to convert it. In AZ were +7 Zulu time. I'm also in aviation (helo pilot).
bsj177 - do you fly for a living/who do you work for?
Here's a story I think you could appreciate: I was speeding thru some rural streets :nono: and a cop pulled me over. He said with a snotty tone: "Wow son, you were really flying back there... I don't want to see a license and registration, I want to see a pilot's license!" I had just come back from a flight so I had it on me and I pulled it out... needless to say his expression was priceless. I think he was so shocked and embarassed that his little joke backfired on him, thats probably why he let me go with a warning!!
Thats awesome. he musta been like :o
ha Cops. Can't live with em ...can't kill em.
I can't believe I just took the time to read all this just to say that time is relative, because it would take me the same amount of time do something here as it would on Mars (disregarding gravity, think of something you would do that doesn't involve gravity).
Actually....................Not like it matters, but I have to post it just to argue...
Tests have shown that gravity does affect time... Gravity wells actually bend spacetime...
Look into it... It'll screw with your head to the point of being blown away or realizing that it doesn't matter. :icon_mrgreen: Maybe both.

Haha thats a funny story. Bet the cop never used that line again! I dont work as a helo pilot yet, still in school. I have my private license and right now working on my instrument rating. Should be a CFI in about a year or so. What do you fly?

I Fly one of these bad boys:
I work for Perimeter Aviation, out of Winnipeg. We do mostly Northern flying to some pretty interesting destinations... most of which have gravel runways! Fun flying!
:thumb:
Joedude,
Wow thats cool! I always intended on flying fixed wing but had trouble finding a school that worked with my schedule etc. The school I go to is geared towards working adults so I works out pretty good. I like all kinds of A/C but helos are pretty sweet. I bet you do fly to some pretty cool spots (oh yeah gravel runways arent a problem for me :icon_lol:)

Why do we have to start observing DST now all of a sudden? We Hoosiers were ok without observing DST for years. THANKS MITCH! :flipoff: Why don't you sell our toll road while your at it? (oh wait he already did) /end rant
