i know there are probably a lot of answers to this over and over again, but is the following link also completely applicable to the 2004-05 GS500F models as well. are there any different steps involved.

Not so far as I'm aware. I think about the only difference on the F-model engine is a slightly different set of carbs. Someone who actually owns an F might be able to tell you more.
Apart from probably needing to remove the fairing, I don't think so.
All of the above, a stupid question is the one unasked so don't concern yourself with that.
you do the same thing to your bike . once again . you DO NOT HAVE TO REMOVE THE FARING its not needed. if your just checking the vavle clearnce then theres no need to remove the carbs. it would be more of a hassle then its worth . when you pull the valve cover off look at the cam chain . if it looks lose to you then pull the cars and check the tenisor . i'v checked my valves several times now and i'v had no problem . it takes you about an hour and half the first time . and only gets faster after that . just make sure you seperate your bolts and you dont lose any rubber washers or gaskets. when you put the valve cover back on make sure you have the valve gasket on good and its not pitching any where . cuz if it is you will have a leak . ( if you can find kerrys video on here i'd say that would be your best bet . thats what i did is d/l it and watched it . it makes things alot easyer and more understanding
