Title: Matte Black finishes - How do they hold up?
Post by: manofthefield on April 02, 2006, 09:15:02 AM
I'm thinking about getting a new helmet (my old spare helmet was eaten by brake fluid), and I'm thinking about getting a flat black Scorpion.

What are people's experiences with matte finishes on helmets or whatever?  How easy is it to keep clean/maintain?  How does the finish hold up over time?  Is there anyway to protect it?(ie. wax is to glossy as ?? is to matte)

I made the mistake of waxing my bike after painting it matte black.
You can still see some of the wax in places.

I find the opposite true.  My black gloss helmet would need cleaning almost after every two rides.  My Icon mainframe helmet has a matte finish, and I haven't needed to wipe it down yet

I have a HJC helmet with a matte black finish.

I'm happy with it. This is the first time i've ever owned a helmet with the matte finish. As far as i can tell, it collects fingerprints that last for a short peroid of time. It looks kind of neat, it looks more 'stylish' and more street riding oriented than a conventional helmet.
