Post by: nick_villan on April 05, 2006, 01:16:28 PM
hey is their any after market part that i can put on my bike that would make the lower rpms sound louder, or like if i had a exhasut on or something? (im not going to drill holes in the muffler or do any weird mods like that).

Honestly though, I do apologize and will stop.

As for the louder question.  you pretty much are limited to buying a new exhaust.   It would be cool to find out there was another way .

yeah i was going to buy the ixil but it takes 6 weeks to get here and cost more or less 350 + shiping, way to much and im not going to wait 6 weeks for the exhasut, im leaving the country before that

Being that it sounds as if you do not want to alter your stock pipe by drilling then why not try and find another stock pipe on ebay or the like and modify it by either adding a different can or starting with the drilling method first since it would be easy and if you did not like that then look into adding a different muffler to that set of pipes.

If you are not happy with the changes you can always put your stock pipe back on the bike.

Another way to make your bike make more nosie is by adding K&N pod type filters but you will have to rejet the carbs for this one but if you want low end noise and more noise then the pod filters will give you a new sound.

The down side to pod filters is that in some cases it can cause the bike to not run as well at lower RPM's.

Just buy a Harley with straight pipes and be done with it.
Title: Re: louder
Post by: TR on April 06, 2006, 02:17:40 AM
I recently installed a lunchbox K&N air filter, and with my stock pipe and muffler it sounds much deeper, specially at low RPMs when you just open the trottle, it costed $30 bucks, also rejetted for $5...

ANY changes to the intake or exhaust will require a rejet. So yes, you will have to rejet, as you said you probably would.

Search the terms, but I'm pretty sure that a lunchbox is a square filter that sits atop both the carbs, and is named that because it resembles the little lunchboxes we carried in our youths. The pod-types are different because an individual one sits atop each carb, so there are two.

I think...

A lunchbox is an air filter, a slip-on is an exhaust.

Do you want performance, or just noise?
Title: Re: louder
Post by: Cal Amari on April 07, 2006, 04:39:45 AM
^Seems pretty clear to me that he simply wants to MAKE NOISE (must be another one of those pathetic attention-whores), so AJ has the best suggestion so far...

Here's another suggestion: remove the exhaust system completely; you'll save weight and have the loudest noisemaker on the block until the valves burn or the engine seizes... If you don't want something that radical, hacksaw the mufflers off; you'll make plenty of noise, and I guarantee people will notice you everywhere you go, until your GS is impounded.

Lastly, you can trade the GS for a Little Red Wagon, or even a BigWheel, then terrorize everyone on the sidewalks in your neighborhood, which seems to be your ultimate goal, judging by most of your "HOW DO I MAKE IT LOUDER? I WANT PEOPLE TO THINK I'M A BADASS INSTEAD OF ANOTHER IGNORANT NOISE-MAKING WANNABE" posts...

Get a clue, Junior; you're so obsessed with making noise only because you want attention (no GOOD reason to do it), and you'll probably stuff yourself under an SUV within a week, or get yourself pulverized by a firetruck that you can't hear approaching an intersection...

Show me somewhere in that post that says you're trying to raise HP and/or improve your 1/4 mile time? Asking a question like "How do I make my bike louder?" just makes you look slightly squidly, and like an attention whore, who's looking to get noticed by people, like "Hey, look at me, I ride a bike, I'm cool!"

I'm all for exhausts, I like loud, believe me, I just sold my loud Mustang, and the bike I'm looking at has a Cobra slip on, so I'm sure it sounds nice. But maybe next time you should mention the performance gains you're looking for, not just the fact that you want to be louder. Also, the search function is your friend, as I know this topic as been covered ad nauseaum.

Sportbikers are automatic SQUID.  didn't you know?  :o

Regardless of skill and experience. all they want is attention. period.  WHy in heaven, would anyone go to the extreme and buy a GSXR600 TELEFONICA RACE REPLICA ?  duh? for the attention.  :icon_rolleyes: AS IF  :icon_rolleyes:

I personnall y don't like loud pipes.  they are annoying.

but I cannot stand people judging an individual for liking that aspect of biking.    not only judging but namecalling and putting them down.

theres no place for that shaZam!. especially on the internet. where its just shameful.

these are the assholes who if you met them face to face and asked them about louder pipes they would smile to you face and act all nice.
But get them on a computer where they can be annon, and the true hateful little selfish bigot comes out.

So I aim to judge the judgmental and spit in their faces. no not righteous. but it feels good anyway.  an eye for an eye.

Hahaha.. I dunno, but if I ever figure out what chicks dig, I'll let you know. I have a favorite country song called "Chicks Dig It" by Chris Cagle, but uhh.. it doesn't say anything about Hayabusas.

And 3imo, I'm not being abusive. Read my post, nowhere did I call anyone names, or say anything insulting. Just clarifying as to why he won't get a favorable response from a lot of people here about subjects that are A: Pointless (to many, not to all) and B: Ancient history, covered ad nauseaum, easy to find through a search. The reason I say many people will find it pointless is that most people here are about performance tuning. If he'd said he was looking to improve his 1/4 mile, people would have recommended things like a 15 tooth sprocket, slip on exhaust, lunchbox, and rejet. Possibly ignition advance, dropping some weight, etc. All he asked about was making his bike louder, which has been covered an amazing number of time in my short stint here at GSTwins.com.

As for all sport bikers being squids, simply not true. Pablo rides a 600RR.. he's nowhere NEAR being a squid. Pablo takes his bike to the track, and pushes his bike, and himself to the limits (and sometimes beyond, just ask his collarbone ) I'm going to get a GS soon. I intend to ride within my limits, ATGATT, do any stunting on back roads, etc.

So how about... we uhh.. quit flaming each other, and go ride something. I'm insanely jealous of those of you who can ride. I'm looking at picking up a GS in the next few weeks, if all goes well. Yay!

I'm not really fussed with what anyone does to their bike / car / house / self.

Their choice in my opinion.

Its a truthfull fact though that some people just like a louder exhaust note for what ever reason.

That would be the number 1 reason most "ricers" and "muscle car" owners buy sports exhausts for their cars.
Sure there's the performance increase that comes along with it, but you can have a good flowing exhaust that is quiet. These arn't as popular among this market.

I also guess there could be a saftey advantage in having a louder exhaust especially when driving next to someone in their blind spot.

Either way you choose, each to their own I say.

Don't get me wrong, I like a nice exhaust note. Like I said, I just sold my Mustang, that had a flowmaster on it.. Nothing quite like that burble burble burble you get when you get on the gas. My friend drives a '78 Vette that we've rebuilt from the block up, and the sound it makes is AMAZING (Yay for Florida not having emissions, so we can run what basically amounts to straight pipes! )

Like I said, the bike I'm looking at has a slipon. I have no problem with him wanting a louder bike. Some people here will see him as squidly. As for safety, I guess I can agree with louder = good, to an extent. From what I read on here though, the best is to just clutch it in and rev her to 9K or so.. that'll REALLY get a cager's attention when they're about to cream you.

Ok, I'm done with this thread, off to real stuff, like the girls on bikes thread!

You, my friend, have a serious chip on your shoulder.

You've posted like 10 times in this thread, and they're all super sarcastic about the people here and their opinions. You're worked up about the squid thing, the curveunit thing, and a seemingly endless list of other topics.

If we suck so bad, leave the forum. I wouldn't suggest anyone just leave this out of nowhere, but you have been posting nonstop about this shaZam! and how everyone here is judgemental and superior. Why stay? These people have guided me through the steps of my first ride to being able to maintain my own bike to being the rider that I am today. They're good people. If our ideas don't mesh with yours, go checkout another forum.

My bike is loud..really loud...but I put a cbr can on it. I think what alot of people were trying to say was that a gs is never going to sound like a harley but you can definitely make it louder  :thumb: It just takes a bit more work or $$ than other bikes. The can i got used off ebay for like $60 my dad made the flange and welded it. Here's the link for my thread on mine, including a sound clip.
