So i'm on my way to work this morning and someone lost about 20+ rolls of toilet paper on the freeway. The person in front of me paniced and hit his brakes hard enought to lock up his wheels.(dumb a$$).It was either go into the dirt or split the lane. the guy to my right moved to his right which gave me enought room to shoot between them. This whole thing took all of a few seconds to play out. Once i was past them i was hit about 3 to 4 times with rolls of TP.(i think it was two-ply, it was pretty soft). Looking back i don't see where i could have done anything different. Traffic was moving at 85ish, and hitting the dirt going that fast i just couldn't see staying up on two wheels. splitting the lane, as dumb as it may be, i think was my only option. Can anyone think of something that i could have done different?
And Monday on my way home, i hit a dove at the top of my face sheild. when i got home i removed pieces of meat and feathers from the vents on the top of my helmet..
Wheelie it and hit the rocket boosters, like Streethawk, man.
Actually, since you survived, I'd say you did it right. Just exactly right.

Im still a noob but i think you did the right thing. If you said the guy gave you room to split the lane that means he actually knew you where there and ws trying to help you out. Dirt, it was an option but somrething that could have made situation worst at thee speeds you were traveling. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
Item one happy that you are OK.
Item two, I have no experience with. Do people carry TP to throw at you. If it is the good stuff, can you catch it. One person's loss is anothers gain.
Item three, swab out the vents on your helmet prefereably disinfect, stuff gets deeper than you would expect. And it will turn.
Item four, as far as the lane splitting to avoid death and dismemberment. Do what you have to man. The one survival trick that a bike has over a cage is that there is a lot more white space to work with. I run through Houston in my cage now and I feel crowded. On the GS there are plenty of holes to duck in to. Always keep an eye on a couple of outs. Think about it, sleep on it, tomorrow morning when you ride in you will know if you could have done something better.
that reminds me... I gotta get more TP tonight... something is going down and i'm out of tp

I'd say don't ride 85ish. I don't know what your speed limit laws are, but there's nothing over 65 here in Jersey. Not that people don't do it, but in rush hour traffic on a motorcycle, I'd stay in the slower lane and stay way, way back from the car in front of you. Since you had nowhere else to go, you made the only move you could, obviously a good quick decision. STAY SAFE!

Noob advice, No cager will EVER recognize your existance, nor will he/she ever go out of their way to help you out, especially when it comes to emergency manuvers. :nono:

I disagree...
I've helped many semi-truck drivers when merging or lane changing, whether in my cage or on the GS. If I'm behind a truck merging ONTO the highway, I always sweep the back and let the truck driver make his move before I continue and pass. If I see a truck is about to need a quick lane change because of some dumbass merging onto the highway and not letting the truck pass first, I always block the lane adjacent to the truck for his optional usage.

Good thing it was TP, though. Here in Davis trucks seem to always be loosing tomatoes.
Do any of you feel like you should always be carrying a paintball gun or small pebbles to shoot/throw at cars to let them know you are there? I ride a bicycle around town always and I'm always getting cut off, on a bike. by a car. Rediculous. I have rear-ended a car twice even... (my brakes don't work so well)

I'll stand by my statement but clarify by saying that Long haul truck drivers don't fall into the catagory of "Cager". Semis are probably the most helpful people on the highway, I would say much more helpful than the police/highway patrol. Most truck drivers are courteous and very aware of what is going on around them, and it truly makes a difference and potentially saves lives.

+1 I've found this to be the case, too. What usually amazes me is the dumb things people do TO the truck drivers, causing them to go to extreme measures to avoid accidents. I'll share the road with a professional truck driver any ol' time! :thumb:
