hi everyone. just called fosterrad. he told me he was the only u.s dist. he quoted me $550. i seen some post were people got quotes of $450. i did call exotic sportbike and they said they could get it for $479. whats the deal? anyone know? any input would be apperciated thanks
I just ordered from fosterrad yesterday may 1st, $494 shipping included, it won't ship until approx. may 15th. They told me it was a sale price and the sale ended may 1st (sales pitch?). I got a quote from a distributor in Ohio $479.20 plus shipping special order approx 3 weeks to get it so I figured it would be about $25 or more shipping to ship, no matter what your looking at roughly $500. The dyno chart from Laser (for whatever it's worth) shows approx 2-1/2bhp from bottom to 5-1/2bhp on top. The guy I spoke with said the deeptone system in general (not GS500 specific) produces a nice flat torque curve compared to stock. I personally didn't like the sound of the V&H and have read that it offers little performance gain. I have no clue what the laser will actually sound like. I'll post pics and give my input when it comes in. I also bought a DynoJet kit and K&N. I'm hoping between the 3 of them I can get another 8-10bhp out of this baby. I knew I should have spent the extra $1,000 and got an SV. Too late now.
  OK.. WHY !!!! Lets put a $500. pipe on a 4G bike !?!?
Sorry.. just my .02...

Because you can.... :)
bling factor plus a combination of not wanting to have to work to get something that fits... ie. no modifying
The GS is a great all around bike. I love my GS and couldn't be happier with it...but let's face it..as said before, the stock GS exhaust sounds like a cross between sewing machine and an ATV.

8-10bhp? Sorry to threadjack, and I'm not trying to bash, but I don't see that as realistic. If you check the Dyno Sheet (http://www.gstwin.com/dyno_run.htm), you can see that Anne's bike, with V&H full system, K&N, and rejet only put 43.2 HP to the rear wheel. The stock GS puts roughly 37 to the wheels. So that's barely a 5hp gain. To do what you're looking at, you might as well bore it out to a 555cc, and make some real power. There have been several people who have done it, if you do a search for it.
Either way, show us pics of it, sound clips if possible, and definitely a dyno sheet of before and after.
I hope to have the exhaust installed the same day it gets here (hopefully around the 20th) and I can use my dynojet "coupon" for a free k&n dyno run so hopefully i get to do that before the end of the month. I don't think 8-10 is too far fetched. As you stated with Annes' bike 37 to 43.2 is a gain of 6.2 at the rear wheel and the V&H is a dated system that some people say offers little performance gains, so we'll see what happens. For real I am happy with the bike's performance, I just want better looks/sound so in the long run I'll be able to sleep at night knowing I spent $500 on an exhaust. I won't have a stock run, but it has been well documented that stock is 37-39. Interestingly enough is that the Dynojet chart that comes with the kit shows a stock 04 at 35.7 and with the kit at 39.7 :icon_rolleyes:
The reason you put a $500 dollar pipe on on a $5k (not 4K) bike is because I couldn't get $3,500 out of it to sell it. So, rather than lose $800 to sell it and buy something that cost $7k and mod it, I'll keep it and live with it. I have a family and I live within my means. Honetsly if I could do it over I would probably buy an SV, but I love the fairing so I would have been looking at an SV S for $6,500 and only got a 1/4 fairing and a more agressive riding position so I don't even know if I would have liked it. :icon_confused:
I think that a 8-10hp gain is not too far out. On my '01 GS I installed K&N pods, Jardine full exhaust, V&H advancer, full synthetic oil, and 2 hour test and tune rejet on the dyno, and netted about 45 hp. Keep in mind that this number is at 4700 ft elevation, and the bike had a bit more pep at sea level even without another re-jet. Keep in mind though, on a GS a 4hp gain is ~10%, which really isn't bad for bolt-ons.
mmmmmmm ..... sooooo you have the jarden exuast .. do you like it ? dose it sound good ? (dont meant to thread jack )
I had a Jardine on my bike that I sold to Daniley. I really liked how the bike sounded, but it never could hold a candle to the TL1000S with Yosh race pipes I replaced it with. If you can find a Jardine don't hesitate to pick it up.

I don't know whay jets or needle mods ended up in there, the shop did the tuning right there on the dyno. It took about 8 pulls and lots of fiddling to get those numbers with decent curves.
it wz 450 at the beging of the year when i called them, they toled me it wz a specail offer.
I just got an email today that it is being shipped today, so I should have it by wednesday of next week. I am having some high rpm/ high speed issuse where the bike stumbles/surges since I rejetted with the dynojet kit, but I jetted for the pipe so I'm gonna wait until I get it on to see if it smoothes out before I mess with it anymore.
I've read on here that high speed hesitation is some times the result of plugged up petcocks on the GS. Try a speed run with the bike on Prime.
Wouldn't logic say that if you run a pipe and filter without rejetting you'll be lean, and thus rejetting without a pipe and/or filter would make you run rich? So hopefully the pipe will clear up these issues for you.

dude u got to post piks

That is what I hoped would be a worst case scenerio, that I would run rich. The problem is it feels like it is starving for gas on the top end/ high rpm. I put the K&N drop in filter in 2 days later but couldn't tell a differance either way to diagnose it as lean or rich. I am going to take a ride tomorrow on PRI to eliminate a potential petcok/vacuum issue. I will definately post some pics as soon as it is installed. I would even post a video/sound clip, but some one has to walk me through it. :thumb:

Sorry I couldn't get the pics to post so here are the links. I haven't got to ride it yet due to rain, but hopefully this evening I will. Will post my opinions on the sound and performance after I get a little seat time in.
Looks awesome. How was the fit/finish? Let us know how it performs.
Eh. The can is too small and too low, IMO. Looks like the V&H, which also has a tiny can. Bu the performance is where it'll be at, hopefully.
bro looks tight as hell
Wow! What a night. What a last couple of days. I will try to make a long story short if I can. I had my carbs off about 6 times since I bought the DynoJet kit. For some odd reason while riding the other day my bike got way too rich while idleing. I took the DJ kit out put the stock pilots and needles (shimmed .5mm) each back in. I put the DJ128 mains in place of the 132's. They should be some where between a 132.5 and 135 mikuni. Today I get to try out the exhaust and it runs good for about 5 minutes and then right back to sputtering and not wanting to idle. I buy the clear gas tube to check my float levels and the right side is WAY TOO high. So it's nice to finally figure out what the problem is,but I have no idea how to fix it. I take the carbs back out remove the float and needle assembly, all looks good, spray it with carb cleaner and try to tweak the float and get it to measure the same as the other one. This was just a pure shot in the dark. So I test the float level on the work bench and vola!!! Right on the money. Put it all back together and go for a good test ride. This thing feels like a new bike!! Pulls so much harder than before and the roll on acceleration, well there actually is roll on acceleration now!! I know I probably left a little on the table by guessing at my jet set up, but I am more than happy with it for now. I will try to get it dyno'd next friday or saturday. As for the exhaust, I am very pleased with it. $494 is too much money for any exhaust in my opinion, but that is reasonable for a full system now a days. The fit and finish are first class, but I did have to spring the header pipe about 1/4 inch to have clearance for my drain plug. It just looks so much better than stock that it is unreal. The sound is, hmmmm, different. It is not much loader than stock at idle. And as the revs go up it gives off a pleasant tone, that almost sounds exotic if that makes any sense. Just off idle it reminds me of the 250 motocross bikes with that sort of quick reving thumper sound. The end cap can be easily removed for a basically straight through design, but I can't imagine it being a pleasant sound. I just don't think parallel twins sound good if they're too open. Ok, sorry for the long post. Jason
Looks good, I think. But work on getting some sound clips! Just about every digital camera these days have sound clip capabilities with the video! Let's hear it! :thumb:
Hell,
I'd put a 500.00 exhaust on a 200.00 bike if it gave me the JOLLIES. But that's just me :icon_lol:
Good luck with the new exhaust. Make sure you post pics!!!
Chris
I know a hooker that'll give you "jollies" for WAY less than 500 bucks. WAY less bro.
hey jardine has an exahust for 379.99 its a full racing system
Will somebody please buy Nicky an exhaust?
yo im giting it at the end of the month as soon as jardine post it on their site

Recording it is not the problem. How do I post the recodings??? I took the "reducer" out of the back. It is just held in by one rivet and it basically reduces the outlet from 2-1/2 to 1 inch. The sound is sweeeeeet. Nice deep rumble at idle and under hard excel........Ohhhhh Baby I love this thing. O0 :thumb:
