Title: Good deal on SS Brake line
Post by: manofthefield on April 07, 2006, 03:15:25 PM
Good news:  I was placing an order at Dennis Kirk and looking around to see if there was anything else I needed and came across a Russell stainless steel brake line for $26 (http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=196279&store=Main&catId=416&productId=p196244&leafCatId=41604&mmyId=3933).  Pretty good deal as I seem to recall SS lines costing $40-$60 elsewhere.  So I bought it

Bad news:  I think I bought was the last one, so if you want one from DK you need to wait til they restock

More good news: I looked around and MAW seems to have the same thing for ~$27... still a good deal

but I'm not a huge fan of MAW

That IS a good deal. Problem for me is the SM2 bars are a lot lower and cause a lot of bending in the brake line. Not a big deal, but annoying to say the least.

AWW Man! It says they only have them for years up to 2000.  Is there even a difference between 2000 and 2002???

From my reading in old posts... there is little or no difference, maybe just a different part # for the OEM brake line.

I had the old lines off my '92 on my '04 and it worked fine.

I didn't find it on MAW though. Where did you see it at?

I originally found it by googling the part number from DK...  Here's the MAW page (http://www.mawonline.com/MFGLISTR.HTM), Find (Ctrl-F) this number: R09183S

edit:  Yeah I looked at the MAW page again and they really don't have much of a description... That's why they are not my favorite vendor, though I have ordered a couple things from them without much of a problem

How much of a difference to braided brake lines make?? Is it even worth it?  I've been thinking about upgrading my brakes, but I'm not sure if there is much of an upgrade besides EBC pads & rotor.  Has anyone ever tried replacing the resoviour and caliper with one off of a different bike?  A few months ago, my brakes all of a sudden started to catch a lot further in than usual, I think it may just be the pads though.
