Title: f3 rims on a gs
Post by: albertinhouston on April 09, 2006, 10:34:46 AM
I bought a set today. I don't know why really but I thought someone had done it already.
anyone done it? I found 1 post but they had a complete f2 front end and a gsxr swing arm
with a f3 rear rim on the bike. If the front end is the option, is it s bolt on? does any one
know??
thanks,
albert

Bolt on?  haha no.  However, a $60 bearing set will load up a 1997~2003 GSXR/TL/RGV inverted front end without any fuss.

Personally, I wouldn't have gone with just the F3 rims.  You're going to have a lot of problems...starting with, but not limeted to:

Axle diameters are different.

Wheel + rotors will not fit in the forks (just measured).

120 rubber will not fit under the stock fender very well.

The F3 has two 296mm discs, the GS has one 310mm disc.  Caliper mounting is all wrong, caliper and rotor spacing is all wrong, and you're stepping down in braking capacity a considerable amount (if you could even get the calipers to line up).

The rear wheel, cush, sprocket, rotor and appropriate spaces will not fit in the swingarm.

160~170 rubber will not fit in the swingarm very well.

The CBR has a 220mm disc in the back, the GS runs a 250mm (discs may be compatible, though).

Along with not fitting in the swingarm, the CBR cush will ofset the sprocket 10~15mm.

...and so on.

You need to, at the very least, get a cbr swingarm and I'd get a set of F2 or F3 forks and replace your dinky stockers.  Ideally, you'd find Bandit, SV, or GSXR parts.

I bought them for $50. both front and rear rims with front axels, rotors, rear cush, sprocket, and rotor.
On a side note, I also bought a dunlop 208 (180) for $5. about 75% tread. and a pair of Thor Dirt bik boots  for $20
all this for $75  :)
can't rain on  my parade.

this is actually going on my gs with the dr 650 motor in it or machined to fit my husqvarna as a motard.
