Title: Rear Tire
Post by: lilspider on April 09, 2006, 05:33:20 PM
The local suzuki dealer is telling me that their manual says that the rear tire on my '96 should be a 150/70 17, but everywhere else says it should be a 130/70 17.  Can I run a 150 on it without any problems?  Has anyone done it?  Thanks in advance for the help.

search my friend and you will find what your looking for ....

on another note yes you can get a 150 on there but the rim pinches and it causes it to be more round then its supose to be on the bike . so the bike falls diffrent  .  you eather need to put a 130 back on there or go with a 140 is the biggest i'v heard ppl going with no ill affects. and getting a 140 in a radial is alot easyer then trying to get a 130

You'd have so much rear-walk and fall in with a 150 it'd be unsafe.

I think the dealer is trying to sell you one of their old tires that has been sitting on their shelf too long, and make a little more money on selling you a more expensive tire, too.  Buy what you want to buy.

You need to find a new dealer.

What 150/70/17 tire is he trying to sell you?  Make and model? Some are approved for fitment by tire mfg on our 3.5" rim and some are not.  Some will fit the GS500 without alterations and some will require grinding a bit off the brake torque rod for clearance.

I've run the Z4/Z2 combo with the 130/80 rear and the AV45/46 ST radials with the 140/80 rear and the BT45 bias tires as well as a few others in OE sizes.  I'm currently running the Lasertecs with a 110/80/17 front and a 150/70/17 rear and they feel as good or better than anything I've had on the GS's so far.  They don't fall in or out or anywhere else they shouldn't.

Some have reported the falling in feeling in regards to the 150/60/17 tires on the 3.5" wheel.  None of the tire mfg approve fitment of the 150/60/17 tires on our rims in this country.

You can always play it safe and go with the OE size 110/70/17 and 130/70/17 tires, everybody likes them for GS's.   :thumb:

130/70-17!  Your dealer sounds like an ass.
